Brown paper and iron method, citrus / oj gel, if it has left a dye stain try red rx. If using rx make sure you pre test first

Solvall (prochem) Just crack the surface, apply with a cloth. Great for local wax. If there is a lot i'd follow Marks advice
*edit.
Forgot to say pre-test, don't over apply, and rinse with water

Had some last week black wax on cream carpet, rock hard.
Softened with a steamer, citrus gel and extract. Needed 2-3 applications on this occasion.

Kitchen roll will work just as well. You place it over the wax and put a WARM iron over it and the wax melts into the paper. Just be carefull not to melt the carpet. Remove any remaining as mentioned earlier.

I use the way to remove wax with what john kelly just posted.
Maybe get some spare carpet and have a practice at home and gets easier as you go along.

Hi
used the kitchen roll way for the last 7 years, worked everytime as the paper soaks up the liquid wax so it doesn't re enter the carpet.
Break off two squares and fold into a pad.

Coming home drunk one night - some ten years ago before I'd ever considered carpet cleaning - the lights in my house had blown. I had the good idea to light a candle and ring the council (at 2am) to come and fix them. It never occured to me to check the lamps and other plugs.
Next morning I got up to find candle wax in a trail from the hall to the phone in the lounge. Tons of it. Like a Jackson Pollock. I decided with no advice or other research to use a warm iron and newspaper. Didn't burn the carpet, got the wax out a treat.

I usually use a hairdryer and an old cloth to wipe the wax in.
Works a treat for me, no danger of damaging carpet.

As Clinton says-practise at home if you've never done it before.
BTW if the carpet is wool you won't need to worry about melting the carpet, but if it's synthetic then be very careful
