Another website topic
« on: February 06, 2011, 03:37:24 pm »
Ive realised i spend far to much time watching crap on the tele, Id like to spend my time a bit more constructively.

So ive decided to have a dabble at putting a website together.

Now what im looking for is something free  :D, easy to use, and something that with the right work has the potential to do well rank wise.

Any reccomendations????

You could always try vista's free month trial,if you like it then keep it for about £7 a month.

How's your site doing,is it bringing any money in because i'm thinking of using the same designer to build me a few websites.

I highly reccomend him Dave, I have another identical site off him targeted toward a different area. Both do well in the rankings and have paid for themselves quite a few times over.

Ill be getting a couple more off Mark myself, I just fancied putting something together myself as a bit of a past time.

prob not the advice you want to hear and not what others will like to hear either but if you're looking for a past time why not go out the door and get more work? do some leaflet drops, gather a list of companies to ring tomorrow, send some letters etc? that way you'll leave the proffesionals who are trained in this area to do their job whilst you can concentrate on yours.

if a lady come on here and said "i need my carpets cleaned how can i bypass the professionals and do it for free" i bet everyone would say why not get one of us in to give you a quote, after all you're trying to do something which apparently is really hard that requires a professional in to do and you'll waste your time as the carpets wont be cleaned and could even be ruined" same thing but spun around.

Doing all this and more, spent most of this week printing and laminating, putting together portfolio, leafleting etc etc.

We all deserve even just a little time off dont we? :)

When i do give myself a bit time on an evening i normally end up lying on sofa, laptop on my knee watching some crap on the tele.

As i posted id just rather use this time to play about putting a website together, I find it interesting.

Not a case of penny pinching, as ive said ill be getting a couple more sites from DP

gcs you really are a plonker.

"prob not the advice you want to hear and not what others will like to hear either but if you're looking for a past time why not go out the door and get more work?"

HOW PATRONISING CAN YOU GET - (...but i'm not suprised going off your posting history).

..Just because he said he liked the idea of making his own website as a pastime does not meen he is skint or short of work.I have a few websites, but the website that brings in the most money is a website that i have done my self on my own in my own "past time" and is no where finished.
The website for less than £10 a month has made me over £6000 in comercial work alone since i first designed it less than a year ago.I have just had a enquiry for a deep clean through my website for student accomadation worth well over £10000,i have a come to a agreement with a large cleaning company to put a tender in and i get 10%,so if we get the tender i get atleast 10 grand...not bad for a website done in my "past time"
This week alone i have over £500 worth of domestic work alone just from one website that has only a little SEO and is a long way off being finnished because i am doing it in "my past time!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Moonfruit, £6 a month and about £10 to buy a domain name.

There is a free option, but you get what you pay for.

You have a website that's taken over a year to finish, is not
yet finished must be a cracker to look at.
And it got you 6 grand of commercial.
£500 worth of domestic in 1 week from a website that isn't even
SEO.
£10,000+ job from an enquiry, you priced it yet?
10% of that is £1000.
Why would you need so many websites?
What do you call yourself on the different ones?
I've had 7 pints how many have you had?

i guess i was wrong

any way i suppose you're the expert and know that this is always the case. cannon will make a site in his past time for £10 a month and be making the money you've said.

can you quote to me where i said he was skint? you ever heard of a strawman? i simply said why not continue to spend more time doing what he does best and pay a professional to do what they do best. after all that's exactly what we want from our customers. of course you can pay £10 per month for a website from vistprint, just as customer can also go out to s store and rent a crappy carpet cleaning machine. it'll give results that the customer will be happy with so why should they hire us? people on this site want thei customers to think that carpet cleaning is a science that needs to be well paid for, but then treat something which is actually some what a skill like it's the easiest thing going and anyone can do it.

derek west

greeny

i think your missing the point, he doesn't want to build a website to make loads of money, he wants to build a website for fun, if he makes any money from it then alls good and well.

(bit like starting up a football team, you don't do it to win the premier league, its just a bit of fun. and a kick around with the lads.)

and who knows, if he's given good advice as to where to start, he might (over the years) get good enough at it to take it seriously, but until then why don't you just point him in the right direction seeing as you know a thing or 2.

ps... not trying to gang up on you, from what i gather you really know your stuff when it comes to websites. i'm just trying to explain what you missed in his post, he's doing it so he don't have to talk to the wife ;D surely you'll help him now ;D

Mine's finished and earning.
Not the millions that yours is obviously earning though.
But then again I'm a realist.

derek: i get the point, perhaps i didn't put mine as softly as some people like to hear on this part of the forum. note to self: there is a load of girls in the carpet cleaning section so be nice and sweet next time when putting a suggestion out there :D

gcs, being a girl and obviously easily offended by harsh words I'll put this nice and sweetly.........I think you need to work on your grammar a bit......I think you mean "there are a load of girls..." Not " there is a load of girls....".  If you're going to be insulting, at least say it correctly!  :-*
