300 RPM too fast for agitaion and bonneting
« on: February 02, 2011, 12:37:38 am »
Thinking about buying a slow speed rotery for agiation purpose and also for bonneting the carpet once HWE.

I found a 2nd hander on a website but its rated at 300rpm. Is this too high for carpets? I am no expert in bonneting/LM cleaning so dont want to scorch a clients carpet lol

Also, out of these http://www.wcsuk.com/acatalog/Numaticbrushes-2.html Which is the best for agiating pre-spray?

And is this http://www.amtechuk.co.uk/shop/Soil_Sorb_Carpet_Bonnet-pid-234.html Good for bonneting a carpet once HWE? Mainly want to do this to dry them out quicker and on the odd occasion where the carpet is still showing signs of shadowing etc

thanks
Tony

I use a 17" Victor Standard Speed. All of our rotaries are Victor's and they are pretty much bulletproof.

Definitely stick with standard speed. 15" or 17" will do. We have 17 because we have three the same and we can switch pads / driveboards depending on the job.

Quick search on ebay found a cheapie. I've also listed one of that A3 Machines are selling. I've had a couple from them and would recommend. Rather than buy on line though give them a call and speak to Charles or Olie. Ask for their recommendations and best price. They have hundreds of machines in so will always be able to supply. Good after sales service too.

I have a Victor too and its a great piece of kit. A mate of mine has an Orbis rotary and thats also a great machine.

It makes such a massive difference for agitation on really manky carpets. You will wonder how you managed without it beforehand.

Low & Slow

Lambswool bonnets are best for absorbing moisture after cleaning.

Striped or microfibre bonnets for low profile cleaning.

300 should be okay. Just dont let the pad dry out too much.

Use a few victors and they run at 170 and thats fast enough for me.

Did try a faster one and the spray went all over  ;D

Thats the secret to keep it damp all times to stop any scorching mate.

Did that many years back and thankfully it didnt move, just gave a small puff of smoke as the drive board sticking on the floor  burnt the solanoid out ::)

Watching someone do it is most amusing.

Do you let it go or do you hold on?

Thanks for the replys guy.

I'll be mainly using it on households so i think i'd be better getting a 15 incher.

Thanks for the links Ian. I've contact the ebay seller.

Doe anyone have any views on the shampoo brushes? which would be best for a good scrubbin?!

Cheers
Tony

Yeh I've done it and you only do once with the tex rotary as the spikes that are there to hold the pad on are quite long and rigid.
I couldn't have been far off breaking a wrist as the spikes gripped the carpet and the machine decided to rotate....with me still attached
Like I said you only do that once 8)

Back in the days when I was just a teenager I was part of this government cover up AKA a YTS.

When it came to clean up time we used to take it in turns to ride the rotary around the room. Turn it backwards, stand on the plate and pull the trigger.

Loads of fun, although should only be attempted by trained professionals weighing in at less than 9 stone!!!
