Those bitumen backed carpet tiles again..
« on: January 15, 2011, 08:56:13 pm »
I've been asked to do a "spot and stain" removal on some carpet tiles, they seem pretty good quality but I got a feeling they're bitumen backed but don't have much experience in this field.  Is it safe to do a warm wet extraction clean if I go careful?  Thanks

HWE shouldn't be a problem.

Make sure to rinse any gen.purp spotters well to avoid bleed.

If you need to use a solvent spotter use a gel one! otherwise it can go through to the backing and start breaking the bitumen down! I always think better to be safe than sorry!

HWE on carpet tiles is fine, I do it all the time andd not ruined anything... yet  ;D

As for using solvents on spot. Yeah jel is best, but as long as you dont flood an area with solvents and you flush out well then you can use any type of solvent to be honest.
I've usd white sprite many, many times withoout any issues.
