on some new vans/cars, there is a piston that does it for you with one push of the pedal, apposed to several pumps..

Do you really need to change discs and pads every time - surely pads only most times?

its disc pads, not discs and pads.

but to change break pads you don't need to bleed system you only need to bleed the system if you undo any break pipes and get air in there changing the pads you just push the piston back to allow the new bigger pads in

I was told by a garage that its best to change discs on every pad change as the new pads are harder and form a groove in the disc so a new set will be less effective and will probably drive you crazy squeeking. Got a mate to do it who is a vauxhall main dealer mechanic, he said every other pad change discs should be replaced, So he just did pads this time (on my car) and they are absolutely fine.

i only change discs if they need changing if they look ok and its not juddering on the pedal they are most likely to be fine.

yeah went and got it at 9.30 10.00 at night drove really well. time i got home after stopping for food ect it was 12.30 i had my car at my mums house so i left the van at my mums i'll pick that up tomorrow. never got round to it so i went there on the Saturday got in went to start it and no anti freeze it was frozen solid and on them they slip the teeth on the timing chain usually on the inlet cam and then valves hit and break the cam carrier and good old fords wont sell you that bit they are head matched and have to buy a new head  :(
since then i have done a lot of research and that in common for those vans they also say DO NOT bump start them for that same reason

when you get someone push the van or roll down hill in gear with clutch in then gain some speed and release clutch to start engine

with abs they will judder under the foot if you break really hard or if the wheel is slipping like on ice wet mud est but you shouldn't feel anything under normal driving conditions. if the disk is warped you will feel your foot rock on the break pedal usually more noticeable at slower speeds like whilst breaking in traffic or slowly rolling down a hill with your foot only just on the break

just changed my pads with help from a friend, took about 1 hr. quite easy now  i know how. the driver side was down to the metal, even though the sensors only been on 2 weeks. its scoured the disc. gutted about that.

the other side had about a quarter of a pad left, anyone know why?

they do feel spongy, maybe they need bedding in?

My wife's car has over 100,000 miles on it and is still on the original discs from new. On the other hand I had the front wheels off my van recently and while they were off I checked the discs and pads. The discs are quite worn after only 20,000 miles.
