so this is my 2nd year shining, and i just wondered what the usual temps are during daylight hours in the winter?
is it normal to wait till mid day before it gets above freezing?

If these temps are normal then how do w.f.p users go on in these months? do some of you go back trad in the winter like they do in colder countrys? or take 2 to 3 months off? or wait till mid day and half your workload

said on radio the other day average temp for dec is 5-6 degrees, its a cold one this year thats all, last december up here was fine till about the 15th to 20th so helped out with a removal for a couple of days and earned some money, ive always found feb to be the coldest and worst month for weather in general. normally ive been able to get out 9am to 330pm no problem.
dont worry it wont last forever, just get out christmas day if its warm enough, at least some customers should be in to pay!

Last winter taught me a lesson in preparation.
This winter has already driven that lesson home!

I now:

Warm my water and have insulated my IBC and van tanks.
Take salt/grit and a sweeping brush
Blade entrance ways

I do between 40% and 60% of my normal days takings but at least I'm earning.

so to conclude, would you say that in the mainland uk (east midlands) its a very rare thing for the temp to be 0c or less during daylight hours at any month during the winter?

One thing learned of late is to get out and get cleaning as soon as poss for as long as poss. for example monday -4 all day - couldn't work, Tuesday the temp hovered between 1 and -1, i test clean a window of mine and then cracked on and did as much as could be done. I'm not breaking records but also not slipping out of the habit of working and spending the day dipping into CIU.

Its not common apart from last year and this for there to constantly be temps at or below freezing

yeah im english mate born and bread "yellow belly"  but ive only been shining for the last two years and never really had to be precise with temps before. lets hope this winter and last winter are not the start of things to come hey!

If this is a sign of things to come were gonna have to go back trad in winter months and learn to get decent with a trad pole and/or get safe on ladders!

these last two winters have been cold and we not half way through this one yet,but I learnt a lot of lessons from last winter and still learning now,must admit these cold temperatures in December have really caught out,weren't really expecting it till January but I have probably completed about 3/4 of my monthly work and it is the 22nd but was hoping for 100% by now but you cant predict the weather.

ive been watching mr squeegy videos on youtube, and im thinking about maybe going back trad when its like this.

But i will need some serious practice on the trad pole and just hope the custys dont mind dirty frames and sills on the 1st floors and above!

And/or getting some better saftey equipment for my ladder... dunno dunno?!?!
