Can anybody point me to one that is easy to pick up, like screwfix or BnQ. I have been into 3 plumbing places today and none had them. The last one told me a plumbing centre was unlikely to stock one. Cheers.

bugger to get on. i used one of them oil filter tools that grip, either a chain or a strap one. mines a chain.

got mine from a local merchant who has to rake through his 'oddments' bin to find 'em!

I'm nearly ready to install my 14" element this weekend into my 650ltr van tank.

My only question is, the washer that comes with the element, does this go inside the tank, between the back nut and the tank, or outside the tank, between the element and the tank?

And basically, the more sealant you blather, the better, yes?

just a bump, if anyone's already sorted their own immersion heater element, can someone answer my coupla questions above please?

the best way to do it is to buy a 2 1/4 inch mechananical flange cost me about 12 quid then the immersion screws straight into that .

Good idea EZ. I found it really difficult to tighten, now it's leaking. Will have to re do it all tomorrow. Also the tank thickness only leaves you with a few millimetres to get a grip.

A mechanical flange may be the best option as the extra metal may help to disperse the heat, thus reducing the risk of the plastic melting around the immersion heater.
