the place the headline was about was altnaharra I think at -16.1 so no not as cold as your freezer squeaky, but it has been a lot colder than that in britain in the past, in fact last year there was some pretty low temps

by the way it was only -15 at the north pole last night

yes I know I seen that as well.

the coldest recorded areas of the uk were braemar and altneharra at 27.2 at different times I believe and a few years ago

Sunday night Llysdinam in mid Wales hit -19C which for this cold spell is the lowest recorded official met office figure so far.
