2nd cleans
« on: November 24, 2010, 03:54:17 pm »
Got my 2nd cleans coming up with wfp, so I though I would do my mums first which it did 5 weeks ago. They are newish upvc and they had a good clean last time, tops of the frame ect. I did they today gave the top of the frame a quick brush did the rest of the frames then all the glass and rinsed all the glass last, but there were a few small run marks coming from the tops of the glass, could anyone give me some advice on how to eliminate this or if I'm doing something wrong

it could be leaky seals!if a bit of water gets trapped under the rubber seal at the top of the window they can run later when you ve gone! ::)best way ive found is to rinse about an inch from the top of the frames once you ve give them a good scrub and allowed the frame/seal to stop dripping.

is it a line of small spots running down the pane of glass?

Have the windows got top openers (or hoppers as some people call them) above the main windows Lee?

yes there are a couple of small lines of spots

no, the pane below the opener was fine, it was the actual pane iin the opener that had the spotting.

so is it best to clean the top edge, but not rinse above it so as not to let water sit ontop of it then run down after i have cleaned the window

I usually just use a high flow rate and make sure I dont agitate the rubber seal of the glass.
I have had the effect you are describing when I first started wfp. This was because I was using the wrong technique by scrubbing in an upwards and downwards motion against the top seal.
I found by scrubbing left and right on the top and bottom seal and downwards on the vertical seal on the sides of the pane I don't get the problem.

are you talking about the actual window seal? or the frame seal?, if you mean the glass seal, do you clean the frame above the top of the glass then?

Im talking about the seal between glass and frame, if you agitate that it can leach dirt.
I always clean the frame and then the glass. I used to worry about spotting, but when I heard of other guys on here using a high flow rate I decided to try it and it made such a difference.
On first cleans I scrub and rinse frames 2 or 3 times depending how dirty they are to get them perfect.
Then on second cleans I find a quick whizz round the frame and onto the glass is enough.
I rinse off the glass.
As I said I do like to use a high flow rate which has given me better results.

I don't have a digital flow control, mine is old style dial control. I have it just under max. and use a tap on the pole hose.
If it is a problem seal on the window that leaches dirt no matter what you do, I would try cleaning that window first and after doing all other windows come back and if it has spotted would clean again about an inch below the seal.
Some people also blade the odd problem window that spots also.

Imo people worry to much, i clean the frame-rinse-clean the glass-rinse the rubber seal top and sides then rinse down the glass side to side from the top rubber, never had any problems, i dont hang around to see how they dry or you will drive yourself insane, if your waters as it should be trust the system to do what its supposed to. if your getting drips that are leaving spots then just rinse abit more on the windows you know to be a problem. ;D ;D
