actually it also says at night as low as -1 -2 should i expect to find my 500 liter tank turn into an icecube like last year? i guess anything below 0 is freezing but will it be able to freeze that kind of water mass? and if so i need to be carefull not to fill tank cos the water can expand by 10% right? Ie cracked tank...

WHAT?your tank of water froze solid?what temperature?ive got 10 barrels filled nearly to the brim.ok where i am(manchester)at the moment but forecast -4 later in the week.will that be low enough to freeze my full barrels?

Daz yes 500 liters or more froze solid lucky i left the tank 90% full otherwise id be getting a new tank .! it was up newcastle way so it was cold and it was at the peak of last years freeze the gigantic cube took about a week to defrost and it just froze up again the next night when temps dropped  again.


Daz i do think -4 can freeze 25 litle drums but its only my 2nd winter with wfp so i would ask someone els too!, but just keep them indoors.
its lucky you got this forum cos the winter can cost you alot you might find yourself up the ladder all your pipes freeze its horrible

But yea you guys think its ok for 500 liters at -1 -2?

crystal clear ive been window cleaning all year round for 17 years and i had 3 weeks off last winter due to xmas and the snow.i was fine.i had money in reserve so ok i lost a few quid.not the end of the world though.

i did go out with my trad pole a few days  to keep me ticking over.i wont be going up the ladders mate whatever happens!!

ah i thought it might be your 1st winter with water it was mine last years before that trad, the difference was all the freezing tank,pipes, etc it was a nightmare as you know.

i did not know you were wfp last winter i saw some of your posts that you converted.

-2 will not freeze ur tank,   it might freeze ur pipes as this is thiner,  but there is too much water in it to freeze,   put a few tennis balls in the tank and this will help as they move as the water has to be still  to freeze

AH nice mate so Good luck with the winter with wfp trust me its naughty !

at least with ladders all you really look for is snow and frost on or around the houses but with wfp if it gets really cold all pipes freeze tank freezes , but if you are prepared you can conquer the winter its simple things like a heater of some sort in the van etc,

With me what happend was a had this bloody half tone cube lugging it about for a full week defrosted had a days work then the bloody thing frozen again i thought sod it got the bloody ladders out lol

tenis balls? ill try that. so what kinda temp should i be worried about -5 -10?

-4 will freeze the tops of the barrels, all dazmond has to do is  cover the barrels with a thick blanket,

the way to look at is, if a fish pond wont freeze then a tank of water shouldnt

i take it that u have to fill a ibc tank  then transfer to van in morning/night,  or do u fill straight in to van

i used to fill a ibc tank in the old house but im in a flat at the moment so getting my water is a pain right now 25 liter drums , also buy water too.

Crystal if you dont mind me asking, what do you pay for water?
I have just moved to London and am thinking of selling a little water around Hertfordshire, And was not too sure of the average price.
Heard £30 per 1000lts, and heard a lot more. So a bit confused.

30 quid for 1k liters is good, some people try and get silly money like 20p a liter but i wouldnt pay that !

i would pay 30 quid for 1000 liters i think im paying a little more then that now
