No, thats always gonna be a risky one, especially if its been on there a while. Just use plenty of hot soapy water for lubrication and get a bohemian bladed safety scraper and work from the outside in i.e don't just send the blade straight into the mortar/ cement. Have a hose on stand by to completely rinse the whole lot off after a couple of passes to demonstrate to the custy that, this will be the standard. Push into the glass don't be afraid, be firm enough and go in one direction only, forward obviously. Don't use the yellow stanley scraper. Cover your hole with the custy, if they are expecting a miracle they are setting you up.

Hi Neil, knew it was not going to be straight forward might have another go when i am due again but weather has changed and getting colder so not too much hot water on the glass at the mo as only a few degrees above freezing this week. have allready suggested replacement panels.
Thanks for replying.
Paul.

You can get an acid from a builders merchant that desolves cement

I wouldnt use an acid based cleaner for what your looking to do. Its expensive, toxic and will cause more problems if not properly rinsed away or if it get in behind the seals or is left on the frames or whatever. Acid type cleaners are used for grout or brick cleaning, I would'nt go near glass with it.

Your probably talking about hydrochloric acid, we use it on brick cleaning jobs but it is really nasty stuff!!!! Wouldn't say expensive but I don't think its what you should be using, try scraping with something not as harsh as a scraper or explain that getting it of may leave scratches, I'm sure he won't mind a few small scratches considering he's had cement on the for the last year!!!

Thanks for reply chaps, dont like the sound of acid sounds a bit risky. did try scraping but i could feel it scratching. could have blamed me and got new units but i stopped and pointed the problem out. The builders came from sommerset way all the way to winchester in hampshire for the job. been over a year now and the husbands in the... wait for it ... building game !
Will give her a call tomorrow and tell her i can not do much more..
Will give this extra work a miss me thinks.

Thanks again

Paul
