Airplane Cleaning
«
on:
November 16, 2010, 04:35:45 pm »
Got a meeting tomorrow in relation to tendering a contract for cleaning airplanes. Anyone had any experience of this type of work? They supply the chemicals - they want a price per airplane to supply manpower and machinery.
Also want £50 million worth of liability cover - rang my insurance company and they told me they wouldn't cover me to work in any airfields or for that lovel of cover.
Any suggestions will be grateful.

Hi Mark,
Did the website myself - used 1 and 1 hosting - no such luck with the house - maybe if i get the contract for these planes - as long as i can stop the tax man taking too much.

Price of a new jumbo jet is well over a 100 million quid. Imagine if your machine caught fire and totalled the plane

We looked into this a few years ago.
As has already been mentioned you will need airside insurance and not many ins. co`s will contemplate this.
If you are cleaning the seats you will have to take into account the flame retarding aspect.
Most airlines remove the seat covers and send them away to be dry cleaned and flame retarded.
Every so often ( cannot remember the intervals ) a seat cover has to be flame tested to destruction at a testing house with the relevant licence.
They will also be concerned about any liquid spilling onto the floor of the plane as many vital services run under the floor.
Good luck.

Robert. so why would prochem make a detergent for aircraft cleaning
from their website;
Carpetclean XL
High concentrate, phosphate-free extraction detergent for use in portable and truck-mounted extraction machines.
Certified to AMS1631A for aircraft carpet cleaning
. Dark green turquoise liquid with floral citrus fragrance.
Dilution 1 to 333 pH 9.5
I think the insurance is more to do with being 'Air-side' at the airport rather than the actual work done on the plane

You are absolutely correct Mike re. XL. Insurance is one issue - but you also need security clearance at major UK airports. As for the tin pot ones which just have private traffic - I'm not sure

You could perhaps speak to Crawford’s Cleaning Services for advise before atending the meeting. I am sure they won't bite. If you don't ask... you will never know. They seem experienced in cleaning carpets in planes.

Thanks for the advice guys - decided not to go ahead with it - the insurance would have been extortionate and the company wanted the airplanes cleaned overnight and would have needed 5 people to carry it out. Couldn't always guarantee could get the five at short notice (only 36 hours notice given for the planes to be cleaned).
Took it all into account and thought it was more trouble than it was worth. Got enough work on to keep me busy and getting too old to be working through the night. Rather watch the telly!
