Have the 1.8 tdci swb.had it 2 years now and I love it.I carry 400l tanks and as with any van fuel consumption will dramatically change when weight is put in.with an empty tank I can easily get 50mpg on motorway and 40 around town.works out at about 65-75mpg with tank full when I
working to £10 worth of fuel.it depends how you drive it too.I also have all my exhaust / fuel system flushed annually to conserve fuel.can't fault it at all though as a van apart from not being able to stop water in my footwells!

i had a connect lwb 230 high roof as a hire van for a couple of weeks a while ago now,  i thought it was a brilliant wfp van, was as big as i would want to go i had a merc vito and thought that was way too big for me,

fuel consumption seemed ok to me and the engine had good torque to pull the weight and didnt stuggle at all.

dont believe for one minute when i read 60-70mpg loaded up in doblos, my friend had a work vauxhall combo 1.3 which has the same fiat engine and he struggled to get 80 miles to a tenner carrying a few computers and laptops!

the fuel light came on on 304 miles so i filled it up, it took 45 litres, so there were still 15 liters left in the tank , so really i could comfortably do 350miles before filling up

regarding your fiat doblo's do you find they have enough pulling power as 1.3diesel?

just intrested my for escort 1.8 will have t go one day 10 years old now :(

Yes mine does. The turbo kicks in at about 1900 rpm and gives it the grunt. It's actually only a 1250cc! It will cruise on the motorway at 80 but if you went much beyond that (why would you?) it runs out of puff on hills. But mine is only on the motorway for short hops around Bristol.

When I bought mine new I almost went for the 1.9 which really flies - but the low road tax helped me decide (*) and the fact that the 1.3 is a GVW of 2000kg and able to run legally at car speeds on dual carriageways and single carriageways swung it. (*2)

* The low road tax applies to doblo 1.3 euro4's registered before 1/1/2007 and the very latest range which includes a 1.6 (2010) you'll need to research.

*2 - 2000kg GVW is the maximum allowed to run at 70 and 60 mph but the 1.9 Doblo is 2010 or 2025kg. I don't know about the 2010 range.
It's a game of three halves!

thanks very much Gold, this will go on my must consider list,

was thinking of transit connect, but are expensive compared to other vans in their class, and this talk of em being thirsty put me off!

Also i think the renault kangoo 1.5 diesel (old shape) is meant to be a good van.

Thought also of old shape berlingo too.

Sounds like you have really done your research gold, from what you have said it seems your van ticks all the boxes, low fuel consumption, low road tax, good payload
also i think they have side doors either side plus back doors.

thanks a Gold.

Lee :)
