72 is good enough if charged every day. But running off the van battery is a bit risky, you might be fine for years, but let's say you have the dream round, a full days work with no moving the van. On a cold winters day you might not he able to drive off at the end as you won't have enough juice left in the battery to turn the engine.

Simon.
I totally agree. No matter that Dave Morris will tell you to the contrary. My 110 amp leisure battery went flat at the end of a big job the other day and that was with a pump controller and 30 amp intelligent split charge relay.

Your battery is well on the way out then. I have a 110 Amp leisure battery and when it was in good condition I could go on for 2 weeks or so without ever charging it, that was on split relay as well. That was on big jobs, small jobs, big days, normal days and everything in between.

I have just found out in the last couple of days that I need a new alternator. Although it was just the pulley that's broke, I found it cheaper to get a whole new alternator. It's being fitted today so maybe that's contributed as they said the battery light was flickering at times. I 'll wait and see.

Ah I see, that could very well be. :)
