how high is an edinburgh tenement
« on: October 04, 2010, 01:07:04 pm »
Alright all?

Was wondering if i could get a bit of advice from the wfp guys on the forum. I've recently moved from trad to wfp in Edinburgh and need to get a new pole. Anyone know what length i should get to reach the top floor of your standard edinburgh tenement?

Been getting the upstairs of some existing customers in Morningside asking me to add them to the round but i dont want to waste money buying a pole that isnt going to reach.

Thanks in advance

Pat Mitchell

Hi Pat

Do you think it might be worth contacting the council - not sure if they know, but they might have some statistics?

Hi Kate.

Cheers for the reply. Not sure if Edinburgh council would be too much use. They're generally useless at everything else it seems so i wouldnt hold out a lot of hope. Might be worth a shot though.

Which department do you think would be the best bet?

Pat

why dont you measure how high the bottom flat is and then count the other floors plus add a bit to be safe.
WE CLEAN BY FAITH, NOT BY SIGHT WITH WATER FED POLE WHEN WORKING AT HEIGHT.

and if there really high you might be better of buying a modular pole you can add bits to.

Tried the council but got shuffled from department to department, although they were trying to be helpfull. Ended up phoning the local scaffolders who told me the fourth floor flats would be at around 36 feet so all sorted.

Thanks for the help, its much appreciated.

Cheers, Pat.

pat remember you will be standing back from the building so you will need bigger than a 36 foot pole, sure you knew that anyway. also the ledges on the old georgian flats are deep

a 45' SL2 should cover nearly everything,.. Scrimmy on here does a lot of Glasgow tenements so he might have a better idea.

I was thinking about the super max 40? Looks good on the gardiner site anyway.

SL2 40' is 1300g and £600
Super-Max 40 is 2400g and £455

Its cheaper,.. but personally I'd find it tough swinging 2400g around at that height all day.

I'd get a CL-X for lower work & either and SL2 or fishing pole for higher stuff.

Put a picture up, they should be fairly easy for regular WFP guys to guesstimate for you.

60 feet is what i would say an auld reekie flat could be in some areas of the city, i have done a few gutters there and some are almost as high as the glasow ones.

they are only third floor he said fourth floor, I reckon scrimmy is right 60 footer, the rear of some of edinburgh tenements have slopping ground that can add a lot to the height
