I think Yell is still a service worth using, but it is seriously overpriced.
They need to accept that they are simply not the big players they used to be and drop their prices to a reasonable and more realistic level.
There is no way on earth I am willing to pay the kind of money they expect. You'd have to get an awful lot of work through a Yell listing just to cover the costs.
Let's face it, they barely even bother to advertise or market THEMSELVES on TV anymore. I can't remember the last time I saw an ad for Yellow Pages or Yell.com, yet they expect me to pay a pretty heavy price for services they themselves don't even seem prepared to market properly.
