Rain, light/medium/heavy
« on: August 23, 2010, 07:19:02 am »
I was just sat here on a day off looking out my window at the rain, i always tell my customers that i work in all weathers light to medium rain! what does everyone else do? im interested in people who work in heavy rain.

And how does one go about determining what "heavy rain is" cos i think its boarder line medium to heavy here today!

thanks.

If I am getting uncomfortably wet then its time to pack in, if its light drizzle then i would continue working but if it starts soaking into my clothes then i am home. If its early in the week i am more likely to go home if its got to wed/thurs and i am behind with my work i am more likely to keep working.

I clean in light - medium too.

I judge it by how wet my hair gets. If its soaked within 20 seconds then its time to get back in the van.

Its about working when you feel comfortable to, only you can decide !

I tell all my customers that i work in light & medium rain, but not heavy has i risk 'man flu' (always gets a chuckle)
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go

thanks guys for your reply's, in rain i wear a cap a rain jacket and water proof trousers and in theory there in no amount of rain or snow that can stop me so im thinking of even working in heavy weather!

I am really interested in hearing from w.c'ers who work in heavy weather to hear what they think!
The cap on my head by the way is good for stoping the rain getting in your eyes!

thanks.

ive noticed that since ive gone wfp i will work in wet weather longer!as i believe the pure water doesnt affect the windows like when you use a squeegee and detergent.their still clean when the rain clears up!

i need to get myself some waterproofs for winter though!this rain jacket ive got is rubbish and makes you sweat buckets!! ::) ::)

i personally think that we all have to work in the rain sometimes to make our business run smoothly and not get too far behind with work.(if you have a full round)

but the rain does slow you down a bit and im more than likely to finish early if its heavy rain.i often find that its much better for me to sit in the van for an hour if its bouncing down and crack on when it eases off.sometimes though its just plain miserable so i pack in and go home!

GB ITS ALL RUBBISH!ive had loads of so called "breathable" waterproof jackets!and ive never found one that doesnt make you sweat a lot and most dont keep you dry from the rain either! ::) ::)

do i work in heavy rain?i have done on occasions if im half way round a house and i just want to get done and get home.usually if its heavy ill shelter in the van or a customers kitchen (with a brew!)and then crack on when it eases!

if its domestics then i sack it off if its persistently heavy(esp if windy as well!).ive worked in blizzards/gales/rain/sleet/snow if its commercial work im cleaning though!!

domestic custies(mine anyway!)i usually ok with me working in the rain even heavy rain from time to time but if their the big posh country houses that are well priced i tend to wait until it eases off a bit.

I managed to get a mornings work in. Finished my last house just as it started raining... Now I'm home looking after the kids for a couple of hours, the rain is on and off... If it brightens up later I'll go out again and clean a few houses local to me.

If its raining hard enough to warrant water-proofs I wouldnt dream of working in it.

What other businesses work out in weather like that if they can help it?  90% of any trades will go and sit it out in whatever vehicle they turned up to do the job in.

rise and shine you can still get soaked in drizzle if its doing it all morning! ;) ;D ;D

surely you dont sit it out?

the truth is we all have to work in the rain sometimes as otherwise our businesses would go down the toilet!WE HAVE TO MAKE IT PAY ALL YEAR ROUND!!!!

If we've started a house and done more than 2 windows then we keep going - in fact it happened today!

We only stop if it's very heavy or if the customer says could you not clean today. In our experience only 25% - 30% object.

You can definitely do more with wfp. Leaded windows very difficult in even moderate rain using trad
