3pc suite help!!
« on: August 16, 2010, 11:35:27 am »
Hi All

I did a 3pc suite on Thursday, I shouldnt have done it because I was suffering with a mega toothache. Hands up, I rushed it to get to the dentist. It was a Chaneille type. I had a call this morning saying I had ruined her suite. I've been to see it, as far as I can see it is just that I didnt set the pile and it has dried patchy. My question is, could I just mist and re-set with terry towel/brush or will I need to re-clean. I didnt dry it properly as I was in agony. I dont need people saying tut tut and so on, I was wrong I admit it. But in agany I couldnt really concentrate. I look forward to your replies.

It may not have been wet cleanable, when you say chenille type, could you be clearer, maybe some pics would help.

I would try your proposed method, if it's already buggered, what's the worst that could happen...?

I had a similar problem a while ago where the lady said it had dried patchy bits.... I booked in to see her at her convenience (A week later than the clean..) The night before the appointment, she rang to say the sofa was absolutely fine now ???

The sofa I cleaned was like an 80's throw back cheapo nasty with a velvet feel....

I did a similar job a few months ago. The customer rang to complain a few days later saying the pile was all distorted. When I went to look at it there were hand prints in it where they had been handling it after I told them not to until it was dry. We just damped the fabric and reset the pile and then hair dried it. It was perfect afterwards and the customer was chuffed. Just do as you have suggested and it should be fine.

I think I saw the pics of the hand prints. This suite is the same as that one. Fingers crossed!

Do you know what the compostion fabric is.

We cleaned one that had the same problem and that was viscose I wish i had not touched it now. Hindsight.

We have a number off photos of the suite in question if you want to see them let me know with your email address.

The fabric is not fit for it purpose and should not be used but its cheap.

Hi Ray

Now your scaring me! I'm pretty sure its not viscose. But I would like to see pics please maxcarpets@hotmail.co.uk . I'm going back tomorrow to give it a go. The lady has been on the phone again saying it has gone brown in patches..........Browning maybe? This is the first time since 1988 I've had a problem with a suite. A I've alreay said though, I know I left it too wet, I was in agony with tooth. I just hope I can rectify it.

Justin

PS, I havnt told the custy about the tooth!, not very proessional really!! I did try to re-arrange but she insisted  it was done.

I used pre spray gold as it is low Ph. I'm pretty sure the problem is over wetting, totally my fault, first time in over 20 yrs!

Ray,

The sofa is different from yours, but the damage looks similar. Did you try to re-set the fabric?

Got to be honest I cant remember. No alarm bells rang, Im sure they would have even with toothache! I'm not looking forward to this one! She also claims it to 2 days to dry?? Again, I was in a hurry so I cant really comment on any of it.

Tooths fine now, had it ripped out!

Maybe if you put the picies on here and it looks similar we might be able to see what it is.

Well maybe the drying time has not helped but maybe the pile will be able to be re set..

If you get it right it maybe time for a bunch of flowers for the custy - sounds like you were having a very bad day, and understandably so.

Good idea Joe. Just been reading through my Treatment risk insurance (just in case)  Its a policy by Allied, for Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning Contractor, the exlusions are I Quote

"alterations, maintenance, repairs or any process of cleaning or restoration"

Am I missing something here???

"alterations, maintenance, repairs or any process of cleaning or restoration"

This should start the alarm bells ringing. An insurance policy that doesn't cover what it is for.
Could you imagine the fall out if car insurance had as an exclusion "doesn't cover for accidents."
