right 6 weeks of hard canvassing on its way
« on: July 17, 2010, 10:59:10 pm »
I have been picking up a steady number of customers but been doing a fair few driveway cleans recently so took my eye off the ball canvassing.
So the next 6 weeks im gonna canvass hard to try and pick up lots of new customers!
Just gotto get my van door sorted so i can get my system back in my van and make life easier for me and then get rid of my xline trolley as im sicking of pulling round a trolley,i will keep my backpack for a few akward jobs but the trolley will be redundant!
Anybody else doing lots of canvassing?

How are you canvassing ? what approach do you have, I have been knocking on doors at the wrong time of day but dropping leaflets through with the thought of follow up later but forgot to note down the people I did talk to on the same road, dont want to knock on the same doors and speak to the no go's the 2nd time around.

I do believe that a slow steady but continuous leaflet drop week in week out is the way to go if you can do it.

Im doing several weeks worth of hard canvassing from Monday afternoon.

I set myself a target of 30 new customers from 1st July to end of July - currently on 14 new

however by end of August want / need to be on 140 customers - now on 58 in total.

Leaflets too frustratingly slow for me so door knocking from now on (will post a leaflet if their out)

Was brought home to me last week that leaflets alone do not work (well not quick enough for my current level) - Ive recently bought 4 streets of terraces, 1 of which had a load of houses with really dirty windows and hardly any customers currently on it - so I did a leaflet drop and waited for phone to ring - which it never did...... went out cleaning the few houses I had on the steet and no lies but 3 extra people came out and asked if I could do theirs next and on a regular basis after that.

1  of them said "been looking for a window cleaner for ages but you can never find one these days" did you not get the leaflet I posted last week - blank look.

So out from 9am and not home till 7pm for next few weeks  ;D

dont bother with leaflets  they dont work,  just knock it gets better results and saves time

Incorrect statement there darren.
They do work as my full round was built on just flyers, admittedly knocking will work quicker but if the customer has gone out their way to contact you from a flyer then potentially you have a better long term customer than someone you "accosted" on their doorstep ;D

I dont think £500 in six weeks really is hard canvassing youd only need to get £17 a night if you went out each evening monday-friday, set your target higher as £500 is too achievable in my opinion.....

I know what your saying m8 but any above and I will be happy.
I'm probably going to go for big houses first and then try estates.

I tried canvassing once.  I did not like it, did not feel right getting people at the door while they are eating, sleeping, watching tv, bathing kids etc.  So I have just gone along the leaflet route.  Nearly got a full round now so it has worked for me.

I found that I only needed a couple of calls, clean them on a Saturday morning and people see you.  Also I have found the people who have taken the effort to get in touch with you are the better customer.
