This is a question for portable users only (like myself)
Do you carry out repairs / servicing to your machine or do you leave it to the manufacturers / local service agents?
Just for the record, I leave it to those more qualified but am thinking that maybe I could save myself some cash by doing it myself.

Steve, there isn't to much involved in maintaining you machine, i tend to do it myself. and save the money.

can anyone help me with servicing my ninja wand?

i dont want to open the numpty up and it all falls apart and i cant get it back together.

basically it leaks at the trigger and the sprayers are a bit clogged.

any ideas?

sounds like your valve in your trigger is worn, it could be a k valve repair kit that you need , they are very cheap & ashbys would more than likely stock the part you need. if not alltec stock them, i've had the same problem meself, the little rubber seal get worn & leaks. at worse you may have to replace the trigger unit, about £30- to £40-   hope this is helpful, regards char

also take out the jets and put them in a container, then fill up with acid rinse, will sort out glogging

after my last service.i am thinking of doing it myself but wouldnt know where to start.i have a ninja and normally take to dartford................but last time i needed a new pump......and a full service...........incl vat £381.00

These are not the most difficult of machines to work on.  Why would you pay someone to do what surely we can all do ourselves. 

Carry a spare of everything you may need and you will never have any down time (well hardly).

Anything that may break down on you on site can be fixed there and then.

Depending on wand weekly remove the filter/s to clear debris sink tap will do that, make sure you use the correct size spanners brass is very soft and rounds very easily, periodically run a discaler though the system, there may be more!

Jets wear and should be replaced at frequent intervals....the time between changes is determined by what the spray tip is made from.

pardon me but is anyone else think if the jets are a bit clogged up how are you getting the carpets clean without streaking them?

p.s yes use a ring spanner and clean them with a soft  bristle brush and clean check filters behind jet if wand has them, vale if brasss witha K on it can be repair with a repair kit of if it just the o ring yopu can buy a box from aldi ( and i think northern tools)  when they have them for £3 and change them all for pennies

buy some killrock from tescos works a treat ,  in reality what dos a dealer do for there hundred pounds serivce ?   is there really anything servicble on a porty machine ? u could hav a machine serviced one week    and the next week the pump stops working,a vacs stops the heater breaks  how can one of thier services prevent this ?  do they take a pump apart? do they take a heater apart? and a vac?  just a thought  but really what do they do what can protect these components ? all these things can be change by youself  when they brake,  a poty machine is not a stat art bit of machinery
best thing to do is carry spares or best hav a spare machine as i do at all times,   some one on this thread said they had to hav a new pump at service   well was the pump not working when u took it for service ? if so it wasnt really a service more a machine fix , if it was working fine at time of service then did they say y they fiitted a new one , as i find this highly q   imo

I just run an acidic rinse on one or two jobs a week and never have any scale build up.

What reason did they give for replacing the pump? You can easily check the free flow rate by connecting the drain hose and measuring how much fluid the pump passes per minute into a bucket. Should be about 4 litres per minute for a 135 psi pump on a Ninja.

Dunno what they do in practice, but I'd expect:

1. Replace brushes in the vacuum motors.

2. Replace brushes in pump.

3. Inpect everything for leaks.

4. Descale if required.

5. Test operation of machine fully.

6. Dust inside of machine.

7. PAT test.
