« on: July 07, 2010, 04:39:35 pm »
I was gonna order one of those plates to mount the hose reel to the van floor, but on checkout i noticed they make you pay VAT on delivery charges...PIRATES! Does anyone know anywhere ele I can get one?

I think you will find that VAT is applicable to delivery charges. Its how a company chooses to list that charge is the difference. Some list all the items you bought at the price including VAT as well as delivery, and give you a seperate VAT amount on the invoice - so you may not have noticed it before.

Due to this thread and others on here currently and as eveyone can clearly see in the past if there is anything negative about any supplier on here the comment remains on, HOWEVER if there is anythig negative about IONIC it seems to dissapear  very quickly!!!!!!!!

I've defended Brodex before they are one of my most used suppliers, this post I believe is silly.

OK ITS HUMBLE PIE TIME...I didnt realise that was common practice, I guess alot of companys add on the vat to the shipping costs before hand. Its just that i have never gone to checkout had the vat added to goods, selected shipping method and then had vat added to that. Just being a bit tight yesterday. sorry for wasting anyones time but at least i am more informed now.

Do you work for free?

Packaging and the time to pack the goods also have to be taken into account.

How much did the envelope cost? You also have to consider that Brodex have to pay their staff for the time it took to fill it & label it?

Maybe you'd get a discount on bigger orders,.. but its understandable why it does cost more than the price of the stamps.

And as for the original post about VAT,.. you can't be serious right???!! They have to charge it,.. its a legal obligation!

Would you be complaining if postage was £3 and the stamps said £6  ::)
I can remember when waking up stiff in the morning was a good thing.

Admin time? Don't talk twaddle, the monkey on the phone will be paid his days wages anyway whether you order or not. It's a con, simple as that.

I use Scrim City for trad gear. They are probably ten to fifteen miles away, they take my order and email it's progress and will text too, package it for no charge and hand deliver again no charge. Brilliant service.

Anyone wanting to charge double for packaging can go forth and multiply - I'll take my business elsewhere thanks.

As a rule of thumb telboy, doubling the delivery of the postage price is fair, for there admin time and packaging (little bit more for a larger business). But much more than this and I start to think they are trying to make money on the postage.

But Gardiners charging a fair price for a carbon pole & delivering it for free is not? ::) ::) ;D

Yeah you two are right and the entire UK business system is wrong.  :P

Gardiner’s charging a fair price for a CF pole, that means you know his profit margin on the poles, or are you talking rubbish as usual. Free delivery, someone has to pay! Guess who? (Bit of a clue: usually it’s the customer who handing over the cash). See if you two can put your heads together to work that one out, I think you might just be able to manage it, most on CIU wouldn’t think so.  :-*

By that, you mean you! ;D
