Garage set up Advice
« on: July 02, 2010, 11:29:29 pm »
Wondering if anyones had experience of filtering water into a 1000ltr tank and transfering it inot their vehicle

Im setting up in a rented garage and using a presured water supply  and intend using a ball valve so as to not over fill.

Is it as simple as connecting the half inch hose  (from the tap) through the Pre filters and 4040 RO to the ball valve at the top of the tank  connections ?

I was going to use one of those ibc tanks like this

Also whats  the best way to quickly pump the water out if the tanks on the ground i dont have mains use , A  12v sump pump ?

Hope someone has a simular set uo and could pass on their experiences

Cheers Dudes

If you've got room for a 2000-5000 litre storage tank or to be able to link some IBC tanks together even better, otherwise just fill water on a timer switch.
If no mains for transfering water with a pump from storage tank to van use a petrol pump but go for 100 litres or less as those small 180lpm jobbies are way too quick to simply fill and switch off. 12v pump more suitable and just run it off a spare battery or ciggie lighter from vehicle.
Have fun setting it all up. :)

I use a ballc0ck valve in my tank that is set up to take 3/8" john guest tubing. It runs through the usual prefilters and a merlin followed by 2 x DI vessels.
Seems to work just fine.  Not sure if such a tube is fat enough for a 4040 due to the higher flow.
As for the pumping, I have used a 12v sub pump with 1'5" transfer hose attached to fast fill a trolley from a van mount.  I just crocodile clipped it to the leisure battery.  If you have a leisure battery in the van, maybe ensure you have long enough leads to crocodile clip it to a van mount battery.  Alternatively, maybe clip it to the van battery.  Another alternative is to charge a battery elsewhere and take it with you to your garage.  If your garage is next to your house, that may be the way forward.
