Evening,

I am hoping that you guys might be able to give some pointers on pricing for an insurance quote.  Unfortunately, the job is actually for me - long story - but I am gonna need all of my carpets cleaned.  I have been speaking with my insurance company and they use chem-dry for all carpet cleaning, as I mentioned to them that I run my own business, I would very much like to do my own home.

The insurance company have now agreed that they would at the very least accept a quote, but off course would not tell me what chem dry would charge.  One of the lads who installed the dryers thinks that they charge approx £3.00 sq yard. does this sound reasonable to you.., and if so, would you go in less.

After all, I could win all round...clean my own carpets, and get paid for the trouble.

Hi paul

in my experience £3sqyd for cd is cheap.  for example, I was cleaning a house, the owner rented land for caravans,  CD turned up to remove a tar spot from a caravan (static) and charged £60 for the pleasure!! - 15mins work (+ travel)

Ring CD and ask them to come and give you a quote, you'll get  to know exactly how much they will charge!

cd will charge your ins co around 3.00 a sq metre plus vat plus visit, inspect, report fee of around 50.00, plus protector at 50% of clean cost, if you are not vat registered you will immediately save your ins co money as they can not clain vat back.
The main point though is that it is your house and you have the final say over who enters it , the ins co have a legal obligation to ensure that "competant persons" are used to carry out claims work.... hence they use national companies, which are simpler to monitor and(supposedly) have a more uniform quality standard.
Legally, its your choice....stick to your guns.... insist you do it yourself at a reasonable cost of course.
