Mobile Credit Card Terminals
« on: June 28, 2010, 08:15:30 pm »
Hi

Does anybody have any experience with these? Looking at getting one or two to help with cash flow and big one off jobs. 70% of our customers pay by cheque, 20% by internet banking(which we struggled to up the percentage) and 10% cash. Most work is completed when the customer is not home, and they are never quick to send payment. When we phone to chase the outstanding payment, thought this would be handy to take payment over the phone, and also the ones that don't have cash at the time, and the husband always has the cheque book. ::)

I am a member of the FSB, and through these we supposedly get better rates.

Anyway, how does this sound?

3 year minimum contract. (Is this normal?)
£70 + VAT one off set up fee.
£26 + VAT per month to use.
Visa & Mastercard 1.95%
Debit and Solo cards 29p per transaction.
Visa debit & Electron cards 30p per transaction.

If you are just thinking of ringing your customers at end of day to get payment you would be better off getting virtual terminal to use on your computer.

Paypal does one its about £20.00 a month plus the fees.. i think its a bit expensive and a company said to me its not worth it unless your planning of taking 24k a year through credit cards
Dave.

just set up a web-site with a paypal link, it works for me. I dont take cheques anymore from domestic jobs and all customers seem happy to use paypal makes life easy and no annual fee. I opted out of fsb as thought they were no use to me. They were keen enough to take my money but all I got from them was a sticker.

Paypal hold 20% of each days takings for 60 days when using the virtual terminal... They realease each days 20% on the 61st day into your account.

I know this because I went through the grief of getting one set up only to be told this after they approved me.

Looking at getting a mobile terminal myself too for the same reasons
