need a good war
that will kick start the building industry and everything else will follow

   Good idea  ::).
 It took over 50 years to pay off the debt from the last "good war".

  So the conflict in Serbia was part of their economic policy?
  Anyway, there`s high unemployment in Serbia at the moment.

Places like the uk are a easy touch
housed fed given benefits even given a nice lump sum to go home just enough to by a new truck  leaving a few bob to get a moody passport and start the process all over again
great Britain

I know the feeling,.. in a country where everything is miles away there is no decent public transport system so every family needs a car,.. most families 2 or 3 cars. The government were charging "Import duty" on vehicles which EU law forbade,.. when this illegal practice was highlighted they simply renamed it "Vehicle registration tax" and carried on,...
Most cars here cost 60 - 80% more than they do in the UK!

One of the best things that could happen to this country would be for whoever is in power to develop a strategy for the rebirth of british manufacturing industry.

All sectors of trade suffer in a downturn but wouldn't it be good if we had a prestigous world class manufacturer just like the rest of g8 countries.

It is a travesty that we are a service based economy producing diddly squat.

I have no faith that the government will ever be able to fix the mess its made. My short term plan is moving towards self sufficiency,... I'm hoping to build my own home in a few years & it'll be 100% energy self sufficient (wind turbine & solar panels with a HUGE battery bank) and i'll be growing my own veg & maybe even raising a few pigs/cows/chickens too.

How's that possible when the cost of labour is far cheaper in poorer countries than over here, and employers aren't 'shackled' with health and safety regulations or trade unions and can make 'slaves' out of their 'employees'?

And although most of this post doesn't reflect it, we're spoilt in this country.

Try living somewhere where if you get sick and can't afford medical treatment, you die.

What about what you've taken already?  Did you go to school?  What about the police force, fire service, and probably lots of other stuff we all benefit from?

And what about - for example - if you contract cancer?  Will you ask the NHS for help?
