Anyone know where I can hire a.....
« on: June 03, 2010, 07:36:21 pm »
...a tile and grout cleaning machine?? I quite like the look of buying the Mytee M 12 as a back up machine but also the fact that you clean hard floors...

Anyone know where I could hire one or something similar??

Hi,

to clean tile and grout you can use a commercial steam cleaner, and a small buffer. You do not need 600psi - 1200psi to clean tile and grout. same with a carpet.

Ever wondered what they used to clean them before the over hyped marketing??????????

You can hire a steam cleaner from HSS or your local cleaning suppliers most of the time for about £40 per day.

Depending on what you are cleaning you will need various chemicals depending on the level of soiling in the grout.

Would a Rotovac work connected to my truckmount? Only considering the Mytee as it would be a backup machine plus has
the benefit of tile and grout..

I will post pics in a bit to get advise on best chems.. Just outside at the mo. filling up for tomorrow

I could not comment on the rotavac, as I have not used one. But what I have seen, I would not think its abrasive enough.

Looks like a bad case of dis-colouring, you may clean them clean but I would'nt get my hopes up about restoring them like new again.

Totally agree. Make the client aware that you can clean them so that they are clean, hiegenic but you wont get them totally as New as de-colouring would have occoured here.

After cleaning, "I am not saying this is the correct method", you could suggest that you apply a floor tile paint to accross the whole floor. If the cleaning and colourstains was not acceptable.

That's disgusting.  I wouldn't even walk on that floor, let alone touch it with any of my equipment.

Andi, first of all if you've been asked to give him a good price because he says he'll give you regular work.... time to think whether that's actually the case or if he's just trying to work one one you ::)  Heard it a thousand times before....

As to what products to use, the first thing I'd do is soak the floor with a sanitiser.  I'd even go and treat it once and leave it 24 hours before even going back to complete the work.  What's been happening for the last 20 years is urine has been soaking into the grout.  I'd even go as far as saying that no amount of cleaning could catch up with the amount of urine that's gone into that grout.

Anyway, after sanitising I'd probably give it a good dose of strong floor cleaner or even stripper, scrub the hell out of it with a black pad and then rinse.  From that picture I couldn't say what the finished result would look like.

You'd probably need to follow it up with another clean using a phosphoric acid based product to get rid of the efflorescence and scale that's built up over the years.

Clover Chemicals do a strong acidic strip down tile/grot cleaner, you can use it neat and it sticks to vertical surfaces and then dilute for the easier floor stuff. Or you could use brick acid cleaner, thats the same stuff but neater.

You just need to wear all the protection gear and get some good scrapers including cut up black floor pads and away you go, and yes I agree with Jim spray it down the day before and keep the doors and windows open while you work, that acidic stuff can be over powering.

After seeing that toilet pic I would advise they sack their regular cleaner ,I don't think even sulphuric acid would get that floor clean. The only other options would be a safety floor  Polysafe or  Altro etc  or the cheapest option would be floor paint

Agree with sanitising in advance, also rinse well before using acid incase their quality cleaner adds and bleach onto the floor. Some acids will release chlorine from bleach.  :P

Cheers
