An Interesting Day
« on: April 13, 2010, 07:04:50 pm »
Spent most of this afternoon in Manchester a city centre flat with Keith Nicholson of Chemspec Direct in the Midlands. Its was a job I had to do and he kindly offered to help out with some technology that may be of interest - machines and cleaning products from the Chemspec range.
The machines were a Pile Lifter which is an amazing vacuum cleaner like I never seen or operated before. a Flexi 5 agitation machine with vac pod (I have the Carpetgard version), and a Hruby Orbot oscillating machine. The latter I saw for the first time at Coventry CARPEX exhibition just a few weeks ago - a pretty fine machine IMO.
The guy in the photos is Phil from Brummie. Keith brought him along as an intro to carpet cleaning as he hoping to be a new starter within 6 months.
The flat was a typical rental, low quality carpet which had been treated badly. Came up pretty good though. The agent was prepared to replace at a cost of £600 but he no need to now.

"Interesting" pictures.

Does the vacuum on the flexi 5 mean that the brushes are less prone to clogging up with debris.

Joe,

I bought a pile lifter off Rod Cope (remember him) donkeys years ago. I understand that it is over forty years old. It's a bit like Trigger's broom in Only Fools and Horses. Not many original bits left!

Could not be without it.

It does not look half as posh as the one you used though

David - I found the brushes on my Envirodri didnt clog up with debris and I would think those on the Host and T4 wouldnt either - designed in a similar way to the Flexi 5/Carpetgard.
When agittating prespray the suction would be turned off anyway.

Garry - tho I am getting on a bit, I have not been in the carpet cleaning circle too many years and dont know Rod Cope, was he something to do with the design?

Joe,

Rod was / is a chemist who used to be based at kiddeminster. I think he used to formulate chemicals for some well known companies.
He always seemed to have old machines that he used to let me have to renovate when I started years ago. A bit of a character.

Dave,  he was a newbie   ;)

and the 2 oldbies (Keith & I) didnt have them either.  ;D

Dave, on that carpet having or not having overshoes would not make much difference I assure you (I normally wear crocs inside the house/flat).
I took photos of the carpet before the clean but photos didnt show up the spills too well at all.
In parts it was quite bad, and as I said the agent was thinking of fitting new carpet but asked me to go along and see if it was worth a clean. Not the worse I have cleaned but it was bad enough.
