Does anyone use a ladder stand off or some device for levelling their ladders or do you just stick one leg / arm out for balance?

i use a LADDERMAT ,  if you look onto YOUTUBE  you can see the fellah who invented it trying his best  to make his ladder slip, but his invention makes it nigh on impossible

i have found it to be great,not pricey either  ,especially good  on very deep pebbley front gardens ,where the pebbles are small boulders of about 2inch diameter
