Anyone have any idea what it costs to replace a set of van keys?
Thought I would do a friend a favour so took some gear out of one of the work vans to get my lawn mower in.

Mower hadn’t been used since end of last season so took some starting and as I was doing so I guess the keys fell out of my pocket, once it started I was cutting away happily till I hit what I thought was a stone, only then did I notice what was left of my keys in the grass box   
Its an 07 plate Citreon Berlingo, and the key was the remote one, (well it wouldn’t be the cheap plain one with my luck)
Fortunately I have the spare so can still work tomorrow.

Ouch, well after me coming out of the motor trade I would say it is not a cheap option.  Most keys will need to be ordered direct from the manufactorer, even getting a key cut from your spare usually does not work.  due to car keys being really complex and secure, this does not come cheap, and the dealers really do milk this

You can have a new key & chip coded to your van for about £90.

About 5 years ago the price of a berlingo remote was £85.00 and then the dealer wanted another hours labour for coding it in. Reg Vardy then charged £55.00 an hour.

The other option is to get a second lolly pop key which is cheaper and get that coded in. but you loose the remote central locking facility.

You may be able to find a non franchised dealer who would be Citroen qualified who may do it cheaper.

im not sure about citroen but vauxhall have the chip just slid in to the key, providing you have that you could just get a new key and slide the chip into it

I was quoted £165 for a replacement key from Citroen dealer today  guess I will be looking at alternatives.

yeah they aint cheap! my old y reg partner needed a new remote case and was told £90 for just that.

suggest you look at a cheaper remote alarm that can be connected to the central locking electronics - so will automatically operate the central locking when the alarm is activated / deactivated. But then you will still only have 1 key.

Just had a result, My friends 7 year old just found the metal "key" part buried in the grass using his toy metal detector. the guy from Citroen said if I could find that it would bring the price down.
It looks a bit battered but it still works. (with the help of some pliers) It wont start the van though, I guess that is something to do with the coding.
at last a bit of good luck!!!
They say bad luck comes in 3's well I am on number 6 now 
In the last 4 weeks I have had to replace the oven, and washing machine, the shower leaked and flooded downstairs. one of my vans was reversed into a skip, got a screw in my van tyre on thursday last week and now my key.

If the chip in old key is ok, it can be removed and inserted in a replacement key cut the same for next to nothing. If the chip is not ok, it may cost dearly. Iveco dealership has to order them from Italy and it takes 4 days and £200 (rip off). Ask a locksmith may be a cheaper alternative if they are self employed.
