weight off van.warning!!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: March 14, 2010, 08:14:32 am »
guys
if you ever happened to  get pulled over by the police and asked to go to a weigh bridge.
the weight of the van will include you and your passengers in the van.not just van with water and equiment.
you will also be checked for your axle weight, front and back.so you would then be done for two things wrong.plus each axle over weight is a separate offenece

just a warning guys.ive been done £500 in the pass, and learned the hard way.afew system same to be on the limits.

i honestly believe that most people with a average size transit or vivaro style van carrying a full 650 litre tank will be over the weight limit the reason i say this is most systems alone can weigh above 80kg then you have a roofrack a couple of ladders the driver and a passenger not to mention other equipment being carried if you are not over the limit you will be very close to it.
better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove any doubt

This might sound stupid but what do you mean by payload and axle weights?

I did check mine on a weighbridge once while it was fully laden with tools but no water.  I have a Trafic with 800 litre tank.  a full 800 litres would have put me slightly over limit without passengers.  Mind you, I put tools in there that I would not normally carry (including a trolley with 50 litres of water).  This was the 2.9 tonne version though.  So a 2.7 tonne Trafic/Vivaro/Primastar would be pushing close if full.  With passengers it might well be over.
Very occasionally I might get work far away where I will need to completely fill up.  I get warning of such jobs so I deliberately run the diesel low (90 litre tank) and offload anything I won't need.  This keeps the van underweight but there's not a great deal in it.  So I quite agree with you Frank.

Hi guys

if you are unsure of the weight then a quick check at your local weighbridge will only cost you a fiver , i have had both of my vans done and it just give you  peace of mind

each axle has a max that it can handle safely.so if you are over on your pay load then both axles will be over there max carry weight.

Well it happen to me  pulled into a large lay buy VOSA, in the lay buy there was Police VOSA and customs&excise and the border agency. All OK and was well within my weight i have a 650Lt tank and drive a Transit 300. To be honest it doesnt bother me at all, because i know a guy who has a1000lt system in his shed of a van, the tank sits on a pallet tide down with cargo straps :o I tell you one thing that day they caught a lot of dole cheats and unroadworthy lorries.
