Has anyone used "webfinder" from Thomsons directories to advertise, and if so, have you had much sucsess on this path?

my view on any thing to do with Thomsons is not very good :-[

My girlfriend uses Thompson webfinder and google adwords for her online business. I am very dubious about the amount of traffic webfinder claims to generate ( and charge for!! ). Out of the thousands of webfinder hits very very few are converted to sales, whereas the same amount of google adword customers brings in many new sales. Something just doesn't add up with it. A couple of months ago we were credited a few hundred pounds by Webfinder because of possible dodgy hits. At the moment still paying around £200-300 per month, think I'll turn it off now actually!

Not trying to defend them, but they do have a system in place "they say", which stops the competiton from trying to put you out of business by continuosly clicking on your site. They told me also, that you can "cap" your daily clicks in order to prevent your credit from slipping away on a daily basis.
Furthermore, I would personaly think that the type of business your partner runs would also be very relevant.
carpet cleaners run a service that youre either after, or youre not. If your girlfriend runs an online store of sorts or selling products, then she'd be open to "browsing", and people looking for cheaper prices...that said, we'd all be silly to display prices on our sites for obvious reasons, and we want people to call us, not compare us.
