connect 1.8tdci 90ps
« on: February 17, 2010, 03:33:06 pm »
hi,
anyone use 1 of these, i'm looking to get 1 but not sure if it would be good enough to pull a 650lt (90% of the time will only be filled to about 450lt) tank and bits. there is a 110ps version but a bit more pricey, anyone think it won't be up for the job?

http://www.quadrantvehicles.com/Ford%20transit%20Connect/for-sale/12

it says on there that the payload is 900kg

cheers, i meant do you think the engine is good enough to pull that weight or will it be sluggish you think..

Hi Paul

I have one and yes they do pull well . I have a 400ltr pro 5 fitted (About 480kg) and sometimes pull a trailor with guttervac generator etc and it pulls with ease.

What made you go for the connect?

Don't know if it is a better van but a 2.0hdi expert/dispatch would be man enough for weight.

to be honest i always hear different reviews on those vans clutch going etc i know someone who's brakes went on the dispatch. I like the look of the connect and haven't really heard a bad word about them and it is compact and good for residential parking etc, plus i'm going to put a towbar on it so i can leave the pressure washing gear ect in the trailer and just hook it on when i need it instead of lifting it in and out of the van.

Would think the 2.0hdi has more pulling power than the 1.8 connect.

Only van that gets regular bad press on here is traffic/vivaro/primastar. Vito often gets complaints too. Wheras suprisingly people seem very happy with fiat scudos

Hi Paul

I got loads of advice before buying my connect and a few dealers said they have had french vans sitting outside for two weeks waiting for parts. With a ford you will get parts same day or day after.

as long as i know the 1.8 can do the job thats good enough for me, did think about the scudo tho you seem to get more for your money with them.

I bet if you had gone to a french dealer they would have said the same about Ford.
You will not win, just go with what you like. I looked at the connect but was told they were a bit thirsty on the juice and are prone to the odd rust spot.

Expert/Dispatch is such a common van I think that is highly unlikely.

i use a transit connect 220 90. best van i've ever had, i run a 650 litre tank and it pulls really well, make sure it is a 90 and not a 75!!!

you will not fault this van, mine got stolen yesterday and im looking for another to replace it, no over van comes close.

even when it's full of water it will drive and look like it's empty, trust me, go get one ;)
thanks easy clean, yep i have already decided thats what i'm going to get for sure.. going to wait till around aug, sept time as i got a little one on the way in may and the mrs is spending my van deposit lol  :o
thanks
paul
