3.5 Mtr ladder on a Fiesta?
« on: February 17, 2010, 10:16:50 pm »
Hi All,

I am shopping around for an economical motor at the moment, & within my budget. I will need to carry a 3.5 mtr ladder, & wondered if I will get away with it on a new type Fiesta, which I think is 3.9mtr in length? ???

I have been looking at Astra vans & Fiesta vans, but in comparison to cars, the mileage seems high, & then there is VAT as well.

Any help appreciated,

Ian.

why not get a toyota yaris verso , (2000-2006) , it has the  rear door that opens sideaways, so you can get at your stuff without having to take off the ladders. yaris verso has roof rails as standard too.

trouble with the yaris verso is that you need to be quite tall to be able to undo the ladder clamps.

A 3.5m ladder should be fine on a fiesta, a mate of mine used to carry a 4.9m ladder on a polo for years as well as his 3.5m ladder

Many thanks for the replies, thats a huge help!

The Fiesta`s are nice & low in height, which will be ideal for lifting the ladder on to, & tax & insurance is nice & low to.

Thanks again.

as long as it doesn't stick out too much as there is a limit on this, you should be fine. I use to have 3.5 ladders on a Fiesta.
also if the ladders stick out, you have to tie something visible to them.

I have an old Fiesta van (mk2 - 1988!) and carry all my ladders on it including my 3.5 meter + with no problems at all. These are getting rarer now, so it really gets noticed! I am an old car fan, so with it I have the joys of business and pleasure combined!  :D

Started out with the mk1 car and also had the mk3 van over the years and they both took a 3.5 metre ladder but you go to watch the overhang at the back and the hatchback door is a pest.
A good roof rack and clamps are essential because most of the weight of the ladder will hang over the front of the car/van and you don't want them to seesaw.
Just google imaged the mk1... ahh the memories of the one wing mirror.
My first car and still in some ways my favourite.

I had a vw polo years ago and a huge set of ladders. I asked the police what the law said on overhang and was told 1 meter either way. After that it has to have warning signs on it.
