A couple of Canvassing Questions
« on: February 13, 2010, 04:26:12 pm »
I know this topic has been covered quite extensively lately but I have a couple of questions which I hope you can help with.

The first question is when in your experience is the best time to knock doors?  (see above poll)

The second question is, does anyone employ a full time canvasser and if so what method of payment works best?
I don’t mind putting them on full PAYE if necessary as I already have others on it so it’s no problem but I can’t see any motivation with that. I would prefer some kind of commission based pay but not sure how it would work as I believe commission only is not allowed anymore. (Or am I wrong?)

The best time to knock is when they're in ::)

Not meaning to be sarcastic - but I think any time (other than in the middle of the night, first thing in the morning) is ok if you can get a face to face with them.

As to employing canvassers - you can pay them how you like - it's a straight forward agreement between you.  It will only be part time work so you should be ok for them just to invoice you for the agreed rate (150-200% of the job single visit value, for instance)

My feeling is that unless you need vast quantities of leads, the best person to do the canvassing is you - you will come across as much more dedicated and genuine and nobody knows your business better than you do.  Plus you won't be disheartened any where near so easily as a commission paid worker.

Simon, I agree. I was doing the evenings & sat mornings, but just do sat mornings now. I've picked up over 20 new custys in the last two sat mornings alone !
