They can be a real pain to set up at times.
When you think about it the, only thing the Varistream can do is regulate the pump speed and the pressure cut of point, but it does have that number and letter combination that's a mystery to me too.
In normal use you have a figure say number 4 on the display, when you push the setting button and hold it in a letter comes up, push the button again and the letter starts flashing, push again and the next letter comes up.
If you carry on doing this you go through all the letters and then numbers come up again, but these are not the same numbers that are on display during normal use. my guess is that these second numbers are to allow 10 pressure cut off points for each letter. In practise it doesn't work out this way as say a setting of 4 B 9 gives a higher cut off point than 4 C 2.
The settings on mine may read exactly the same for days at a time, but sometimes the thing has a mind of it's own and creates far too much pressure.
I lost the instructions for mine, does anyone know exactly how these thing work?
I would love to run my system with the same flow and pressure cut off as the Surflow backpack running flat out.

I've been using a varistream that is nearly 4 years old (courtesy of freedom trolley). And while it's been a trooper it also gets temperamental every now and then.
The only time i have had the perfect flow, consistently over time was using van mount without varistream. Just a flojet and on/off valve between the pump and tank.
Although i'm using one at the moment i keep thinking it's like wearing 2 safety vests. The varistream duplicating what pump and regulating flow valve does anyway.

I've had a digital varistream for 2 years & as long as the strainer is kept clean it performs bang on. Very reliable with a consistant flow at any height. Uses less battery power to run the pump too.

Both times I have had a problem it's been the strainer blocked up, take out, clean & problem solved. ;) ;)

That strainer is a very valid issue...I used to have 2 dogs and the stainer always had dog hair in it...now gets cleaned out once a month.

Cheers

I don't use the strainer as I have them on the tubes going into the containers. Stainless steel pipes that used to go into beer barrels.

Hi
Got these instructions from Williamsons a while back.

"The New Varistream Digital is now available from your local stockist.

Principle features are:

1 – digital display to set amount of flow (0 – 9, nine being the highest & ‘b’ for boost). Up/down arrows to change flow which is very easy to do. The flow setting is very visible (large red LED)

2 – the pressure shut off is set by up/down arrows on the outside of the box via the digital display (no need to open up the box & fiddle with the blue pot) Mode selection is holding both up & down buttons for 3 seconds which takes the user into the pressure setting mode. Adjust to desired setting (0 -9 & A,B,C,D,E & F, F being the highest). To confirm new pressure setting turn unit off & back on.

3 – flush front panel, no numpty to be knocked/damaged. No pot to get worn out from repeated use.

4 – Unit fully IP65.

5 – Can be used on all 12VDC pump that draw less than 10 Amps at full pressure.

The main features of the old varistream still apply:

a. The Varistream Digital takes over from the pump pressure switch, which becomes redundant (and therefore cannot break)

b. The Varistream Digital monitors the height at which the brush is working and automatically compensates to ensure keep the same flow rate at whatever the brush is being used.

We hope you like it!
