What do you do if forced to take a day off?

I work through all bad weather
I pack up, go home and do nothing
I find something to do NON work related
I do other things that are related to my business

It’s Persisting down!!!! What will you do?
« on: January 22, 2010, 11:17:33 am »
I set my self an ever increasing target for this year and although the bad start slowed my progress a little, this week was on target to be my most productive week for 3 years due to a renewed enthusiasm and the forming of some new habits. (I don’t do NY resolutions).
Today is P****g down and as I am in the middle of cleaning loads of first time cleans (78) I thought it best to stay home. (I don’t want to upset them too soon)  ;D
So instead I am catching up on paperwork this morning and plan to clean all the vans and equipment later.
So my question is.... What do you do when forced to take a day off?
Do you do things work related and stay productive or do you see it as a lazy day and relax?
Reflect on the answer you give and then think, if maybe you did things differently this year how will it improve your business. I did this over the Christmas break and already my business has improved 100%
Small changes can make huge differences!

ps, Before anyone comments on the fact I am not working but am on the forum. Its tea break!  ;D

It's chucking it down but I have to wait in for some furniture to arrive anyway. I don't normally work in this weather but if we get much more this year then I'll have to start! Funds are getting low and my outgoings have outstripped my income so far this month.

Computer mainly, but might pop to my parents or go for a coffee up the pub.
Not supposed to last much longer looking at the satellite pictures anyway...

And me ... but as for today I reckon it will have eased enough to go out in about an hour.
It's a game of three halves!

Ive just been to price up a fair sized job, had to take my 2yr old, but the manager didnt really mind, she has 2 children of her own

she phoned yesterday and asked me to come and give her a price, i had been recommended by a customer , i explained i would come on monday as i had my daughter home with me, she wants them done next week, so wanted a price today so it wasnt as if it was a surprise for her ( before the idiots start to moan that i was unprofessional taking my daughter blah blah blah )

looks like i got the job, she just had to ok with head office

You didnt give an option for all 4. Im not a robot so somedays Ill do one thing and others days I'll do different.

When it rains Jack do you only have one option as a possible choice for yourself?

Good point Matt, unfortunately its too late to add another option  >:(
I guess I try to get as much work related stuff done as possible then when I run out of ideas I relax and do other stuff.
It was only really meant as a generalization anyway, I used to find it easy to lose an entire day by doing nothing but now I try to be as productive as I can during work hours and leave the personal stuff to other times or when I am happy all work is done.

At the moment its chucking it down here and Im stuck between being a slob (which I dont like doing) and going out to get something productive done.

I will be returning a parcel as the goods were faulty, getting my hair cut and paying osme readies into the bank and also cheques, so not an entirely unproductive day.

Some days are different,  paperwork, something constructive(business), on here,  PS3,  Or play around with the digital cam but most the time I sit and wait for the weather to get better if its not too later go back out to work.

All depends on the mood ::)

Yes I cleaned up after me

Hi Eco

Looking at your avitar of ther guy right on top of his ladder which is also leaning on a canopy - it looks like the guy who does that on the busy main road into Canterbury.  If the ladder slips it'll go out into the road and probably get sideswiped by a passing vehicle - makes me shudder every time I see him up there.

i leave it up to me,if its throwing it down in the morning i will probably leave it,if we are out when it starts we will work on,if it gets really heavy on looks prolonged we,ll pack up for the day.
we have about three spare days per month to catch up or do other jobs
