go as big as you can, the thinner ones freeze up easier, and tangle easier! my real bugbear untangling me and my wifes hoses! plus i bought her a smaller diameter hose, which gives out a lower pressure, which isnt great.

8mm

Get as light a hosereel as you can.  It may not last as long, but unless you've already got arms like Popeye you'll be glad!

Don't just buy the cheapest as you'll end up buying twice.  I would go for microbore 6mm, not frozen on me yet although I do take precautions.  I have had 1/2 inch freeze in the past when not taking antifreeze measures.  You need to decide on fixed or freestanding hosereel.  This is where you need to spend the money to get a decent one don't be tempted to spend £20 for a cheapie from B&Q.

Any from this site are good.

Or these but don't get the plastic ones.

It's cheaper to get 6mm than 8mm and in my opinion better as long as your pump is man enough for it.

Simon.

Whichever one you end upgoing for, make sure that it has a thick inner core.  The thin ones can start pinholing after a few months.

Yeah dont get plastic, my reels get battered, fall over, theyre bent, and if they were plastic would have lasted bout a month. they were screwed to the floor, but holders broke, so now i use bungee cords, they work well.
