My changeover to WFP
« on: December 31, 2009, 06:07:26 pm »

Over the last three months I've taken the plunge and changed over from trad to wfp, taking advice from many on this forum.
Here's how its gone.
I bought a trolley from an unamed source (I don't want to slag anyone off)
The trolley had a 60 ltr pressure vessel which was supposed to pump the water to the top of the pole.
I persisted with this system for 2 or 3 weeks until it got the better of me and i dumped the vessel and just strapped my Shurflo backpack to the trolley.
The trolley has two large Di filters fitted so I fill up at the custies tap.
I just remove my backpack when the access is bad.
I bought 2 poles, (from Cleaning Spot)  one 18 ft Brodex hydra (good but i've needed to araldite all the clamps in place)
and one 35ft Extel, heavy but does the job well.
My prices were quite a lot lower than the other competing w/c 's in the area (i  have lots of competition)
so I increased my prices slightly. No complaints  so far.
With being able to do more work and access more windows, my round jumped by £200 immeadiatley.
It's been a hard and busy time but I now get my work done quicker and i think better and certainly safer.
I've had two or three complaints on the 1st clean and lost 3 or 4 custies, but overall i've come out ahead and I'm much happier.
Thanks to Chris Roberts (Deeside), Dale Matthews (Doncaster), Andy Atkinson and Scrimmy.
I would certainly recommend the backpack on a sacktruck route.
Hope this is an encouragement for others to give it a go.

Pristine Clean

Jonboy,

With regards to the first couple of cleans where you have had complaints. I would not worry too much. If you were using traditional it leaves a residue behind and the changeover to WFP can sometimes leave spots. After a 3rd visit they should be fine.

I remember the hardest part of the changeover was informing the custies the windows will be left wet. Not all of them like that.

Good to hear some one is doing well.

i am glad that you are finding it easier with the backpack on a sacktruck/trolley.......i started off with van mount for all my work which just did not make any sense to me (dragging 100 metres of hose up and down the street, getting parked on by stupid custies and getting tangled up in bushes or caught on wheelie bin wheels)

i have been using the shurlfo backpack now for around two years and i loved every minute of it, however i fear that the quality of the backpacks are not what they used to be (shurflo, i hear will not be shipping them in to the UK very shortly, dont know if that true or if it is true i dont know the reasons)

however i have noticed that the pumps/pcb's dont last as long as they used to.......and so i am now trying out a new method.....which is just the same really only i now use a 100 psi pump box (tied to the trolley, along with the battery from the backpack and of course my DI) not a lot of difference in weight to be honest, but i am noticing that with the much better flow rate i am getting better results on the 1st cleans ( backpack is still good enough, but takes a bit longer)

i will let you guys know how i am getting on with it after a few more weeks.

I think that my first clean problems may clear up, as has been said it takes time for the residue to disappear.
I have had some compliments as well though.
As for the Shurflo distribution in the uk, that's bad news, but I ,m sure I.ll be able to adapt.
Are the WCW backpacks as good as the shurflo?
Thanks for the replies, lads.
