New name

Has anyone tried to relaunch their business under a new (better), name? Just wondered how it went down or if anybody recommends doing this.

I'm thinking of doing so rather than using my own name.

I believe Cozy started of as Bodgit and Scarper Window Cleaning but when the custards found out it was the truth instead of a joke he changed it to Porthole Cleaners, then they knew exactly what they were getting and his business prospered  ;D

Im selling up and starting in a different area in April. Im changing my company name then to something better.

Best thing would be to speak to your accountant if you have one.
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go

i started as jtb window cleaning back in 1992 sold on after a 5 years then started again as clearview, didnt put much thought into how common the name was as some contractors i worked for had 6 /7 clearviews on their books which caused me to get other peoples money and vice versa,

since the recession ive had all the management companies mess me around with money so i decided to bin them and concentrate on domestic work less hassle and not that much less money

so i had a bit of fun and rebranded as www.bigredmonkey.co.uk  its worked reasonable well considering how little ive pushed it, idea being its very easy to remember and gets a laugh everytime someone talks about it so tends to stick in peoples memory rather than the endless variations of initials which seems to be the norm (me included when i first started)

of course new year coming so ill be enthusiastic for the first month before it wears off again!!

Whatever you call yourself, make sure it's EASY TO READ, and MEMORABLE.  Wherever your prospective custies see your name, they've got about 2 seconds max for it to register.

Don't use initials - nobody remembers these.  Steer clear of names that are some made up word followed by 'clean' (or 'klene' or 'clene' etc etc) - there are thousands of them out there (and 'clearview' 'kleerview' etc etc)

Either use your own name (if you're trying to create a local presence) or something to really hit them - like 'Big Red Monkey Window Cleaning' on another thread - surprises people and makes them think - you stand out so they'll think of you when and if they need a window cleaner.

Always try to give the right impression when choosing a firm name. It's very important to make your custies feel good about dealing with you.
