would it be possible to make up your on backpack using a battery powered sprayer like the one in the link, what extra fittings would be needed?

I don't no if if it can be adapted, but you can get a new one fit for the job at the window cleaning warehouse for very similar money

yes and its basically the same as the wcw one which I have, the postage seems a bit steep though at £23 and you'd need to buy a hoselock tap or microbore tap for it and so even with wcw's vat slapped on buying the hudson at the opening bid price is realistically only gonna save you about £20 or so, atleast with wcw your buying from a known supplier and have piece of mind, good backpacks, use mine more than i thought I would  ;)

I am guessing these are all imported from china, I have been speaking with a few exporters over there and it is quite amusing seeing the price of some of the items being sold over here and the price they fetch.

Do yoju have to taillor the surflow back packs ?

I have a Hudson one,.. its EXACTLY the same as the WCW backpack. a standard quick connect will fit the pipe.
