I would think that the first one is spinning a yarn, when she/he rings another trade they probably say the same to them. I get them calls all the time :-[

The second one sounds like it is even worse - i would stay clear myself.

I agree with Derek. It's rare that something mega comes from tele sales or door to door. Also you indirectly pay for the commissions.

My line has always been if it's that good you will be more than happy to give me a free trial. ;) Always steer clear of long term contracts as these usually mean they know it's a one hit steal.

Ask them how they found your number, then ask yourself if a potential customer could have found it as easily!

on another note, anyone involved with BNI, breakfast clubs etc. Again a large wedge up front. Went to one the other morning, rolls were good, was like being back at school standing in front of other folk telling them how good I was, and what I achieved last week.

Got invited to a BNI breakky few months back.
Declined the invite.
I did some research and it would have cost me about £1000 or more over the year.

BNI & other networking groups can be good for our types of business. £400 ish + vat to me is cost effective marketing (+ a few quid for your breakfast). I have been a member of 4N for 5 months and my fee has more than been covered from referrals, networking is another tool to add to your marketing plan.

Yep we have been invited to one of these exclusive breakfast clubs to, all sounded really good until they told us it was £15 each for breakfast and then we'd have to pay a monthly fee, i told them im not into bribery or corruption !

I have, i was involved with debt recovery for a large firm in Essex called UK Media who sold adverising space at train stations, it is very expensive and was never convinced it was good value, mostly restaurants and local business but never came across any carpet cleaners using them.

the thing is, think logically, the only people that look on train station maps are those who are travellers and unfamiliar with the area. if some one is local why would they look at a map specially in train station? All i'm trying to say is how will you benefit from visitors to the town/city?You wont, if you was running a restaurant or near by cafe it would probably be a good idea but for businesses of our trade no benefit whatsoever.

That's exactly what I said. You get on a train without even thinking about it. He also said he has a spot outside Tesco, with a council recycling map on it. I asked if he was so sure of the advertising potential, to my company, can I have it for free and pay him in full when I hit the subscription amount, in sales. Still waiting for his reply.
