Starting out pricing and other wc's
« on: September 16, 2009, 04:35:52 pm »
Hello,

I am starting out as a WC and wondered what peoples views were on pricing - in particular offering a half price first clean (I am aware they generally take longer) as a way to attract new customers.

I am not in the business of undercutting other wc's so price fairly and don't want to steal (intentionally or unintentionally) other wcs work.

Any thoughts?

Not a good idea!

You will get loads who will mess you about when you go back to clean the second time.

Price well and add at least 25% for a first clean!

Thanks for that Andy - This was my main concern - that and stealing others work without meaning to.

I would never do a first clean for half price especially if you are using water-fed-pole. First cleans are the worst and an absolute nightmare with the pole. I always lose money on a first clean.

Thanks Teri I think I will charge normal rate for first clean - I am using trad methods.

Incidentally - wondered what peoples views are on trad vs wfp - I gues that is another big topic on its own?

Personally I will be using trad to start atleast as I don't have the funds for wfp yet.

Mike..with ref to trad v wfp...trad is rubbish an cannot do a good job no matter who is using it on the other hand wfp is fantastic and only the elite are permitted to use it... ;D ;D (just having a giggle).

Cheers
Dave.

trad Vs wfp. incidents of skull fractures and death lower with wfp than trad, can be quicker with wfp. with trad when you walk away you know there are no probs with the finish.

undercutting.
if you charge what you feel is the right price and the customer accepts that price then you have not undercut. if you ask what the other guy charges and deliberately charge less you are undercutting.
you are in business, charge what you feel is fair and everything will work out.
