so i have read some where on here that some of you guys have cleaned them in your bath? can i get an expalinatiom on how to do this properly please? they are bog standard IKEA wool rugs. no major stains just gruby looking and a bit wify.

Unless you have sufficient drying available HWE back and front instead. I had a shag pile that took almost a week to dry after a bath.

You might want to pass this job on if you dont know what your doing.

You dont wash rugs in a bath.  You would soak them in a pool/bath flat if they had an odour problem depending upon the type of rug.

I imagine Ikea rugs are machine tuffted with a canvas backing.  You DO NOT want to get this backing wet or it will stink, take ages to dry and could cause problems with the glue behind it.

As suggested the FULL HWE process would be best.

If they do suffer from odour then you need to consider the risk with the customer but they are probably cheap rugs and not worth it.

Sounds like the rugs are not too large (if you were thinking of a bath).
Get large sheet of plastic out on a drive, put up some edging so it forms a pool, and immerse the carpet in water.
Either scrub manually or, and only if water not too deep and its 100% safe, use a rotary with a brush.
Let water go, keep flushing with a hose, push as much water out with a roller or your wand, lots of extraction.
Drying is the problem.
If you can get it up in the air on tressles or the like.

I have cleaned a number of rugs using the immersion method, never been a problem apart from the drying times.
Just got back from Spain and was laid back sunning myself thinking " wouldnt it be great to have these conditions to dry rugs"   :)
actualy made a few inquiries whilst out their regarding the need of a c/c , i was quite surprised that their is a market , especialy for the cleaning of leather and rugs. hmm ,
What shall I do ?
