100% Polypropylene best way to clean?

Hi Guys,

Can you please advise on the best way to clean 100% Polypropylene?

What should I not do? Is there anything that I need to be careful of here?

Be careful with solution hose and connectors if you have v. hot water.

HI Mike,

Thanks for the reply

I only have a basic porty! Rhino 500psi it does heat the water to 120degrees am I best using cold water?

I did do a search on Polypropylene and it reads mainly that it shrinks! - it a lounge carpet and stairs.

Re shrinkage this is refering to a woven ployprop carpet known as a belgian wilton.

Do a search on this forum.

In fact, anything you think of, do a search, read the threads and the questions you come up with wll be more informed and the answers you get will be more specific. If that makes sense?

Ultrapac renovate pre-spray and rinse.
Chech the backing make sure it is not a BW.

 I have had training with Prochem, Ashbys, and other places but just wanted some re-asurance.

its a poly prop, if it aint woven, nuke it.

Polypropolene is olifenic which means it is derived from oil, ultrapk is my chemical of choice for these abviously do your tests if it is a belgium wilton then procede with care but I do all of mine water cleaned, I would strongly advise using aggitation and a good dwell with your prespray.

I know I,m going off at a bit of a tangent here but I cleaned a wilton rug last week the was 100% wool. And it was made in Belgum.

Pretty well what everyone else has said, check the backing. If it's woven. make sure you don't allow it to become overwet. Prevac, Light prespray, lots of brushing, extract using plenty of drying strokes. Repeat if needed.

Doesn't it depend on the quality? The cheap and nasty ones are almost bald and you can quite clearly see the jute backing when you part the carpet fibres, thus they shrink when even lightly wetted, Where as the better quality Wilton's (Or proper Wiltons) have a more compact structure.... These also shrink but only if over wetted! Am I right? Do I get a star ;D ;D ;D

A wool fibre will hold 5 times its own weight in water, so when you clean the fibre holds the water, on a polyprop (Plastic) the water runs straight to the bottom of the fibre and into the backing, this is why BW shrink easily, you will have to seriously overwet a wool carpet for it to shrink.
