shaun just wait. 15 years time and the tinernet will be where most of your custys come  from, its all about generations, the up and coming youth over last five years or so, think this screen with a key board is there only media choice, we used to read paper or look in yp if we wanted a service.
most of my customers are 35+ infact 65% are in there fifties these people dont use it for that, i dont think the internet is the marketing tool some people think at the moement, will be in time.
would be intresting if anyone as any info on internet usage age groups, amount of population got internet ect.
now for your post couple a month turn into jobs 0 always miles away

Get quite a few hits on my site, converting them is another thing if you email them back you usually don't here from them again but if they don't fill in their number they are normally just shopping round. You need to speak to them over the phone which will normally swing it.

Lately I have had calls from Nottingham,Birmingham,Gloucester and Cheltenham all through the web and good paying jobs too.

You are getting people that want a carpet cleaner in Sheffield, you want people that need the BEST carpet cleaner in Sheffield.

So all you need to do is find out who that is,

& how to market to them on t'internet.

Personaly I donot think the internet is the low cost automated marketing machine we are lead to believe it is.

Contributors have boasted about the number of hits they get etc.

I cant remember the exact figure without going back into my emails but Chris Cardell a marketing Guru said that only one in a hundred Hits  converts into enquiry. So you would need yet more hits to get a Sale.

A little while ago in America a system was launched by a JP type person to automatically grow your company on internet .
This system had everthing including podcasts Voice Mail etc, this is opbviously the way to go a incoporate into your sites as much as possible.

I agree it depends on how good your site is etc and we do intend to rebuild ours.

Some of us use it  like Mike Halliday suggested as a back up to other marketing.

I also think it depends on where you are but do agree that the majority of my internet enquirys come from people in their late 20s to 40s

Below is my September 07 summary for my Google Adwords Account.

Total Clicks: 262
(the number of people who viewed my sites from google)

Average CPC: £0.54
(cost per click)

Total Impressions: 3,350
(the amount of times they showed my ad to people searching for a carpet cleaner)

Total CTR: 7.8%
(Click through rate)

Total Cost: £142.67

I got 43 Jobs from the 262 clicks and passed a load of enquiries onto to Ian Harper who is on this site.

I come up on Google for all major towns in Essex and some parts of East London. Each town/area has its own website.

4 jobs in September for my half page colour advert in BT Colchester Book. £98.00 per month.

I've seen your site Prodry I presume you put a lot of effort into setting things up.

Did you do it yourself and what's the time investment involved?

The site www.pro-dry.co.uk covers my home town and was easy to create, I have similar sites for the other towns/areas I cover. Like www.prodry-chelmsford.co.uk. Being in Essex I have a number of large and small towns and east london all within 40miles of me.

I thought having a site for each town/area was more personnal and people prefer to use local services. The amount paid £142 for september was for 7 towns and for East London. So anyone with a smaller coverage would obviouly pay less. I come up number 1 for my home town if someone types "carpet cleaner Colchester" and I also come on the sponsered listing (google adword listing). I could turn off Adwords for colchester but adwords costs are so low there is no point. Also if someone types in "chemdry colchester" I come top with Google adwords and I have had a few jobs from this as well.

Setting it up on google took a bit of time, but once it is set up its there. I can turn certain areas on and off depending on how busy I am.

The numbers visiting the site from google go up every month and the quality of the enquirys are good. They have also read something about the company before they make contact and most that make contact are doing so to book up. Where as the ones I get from the phone book are ringing me and others.

If anyone does want any help setting up a basic site like one of mine or help with Google adwords I would'nt mind helping.

Thats amazing and it takes a lot to get me ticking.

What should someone who has no site and no clue and no time, do to get going on the net.

Mark

PS. I'll say it again thats amazing.

Hi there

the internet is really working for me, last three months we have paid approx £170 per month in google adwords, and the work is rolling in and on going,

ican honestly say that for approx £550 of advertising we have won £60,000 worth of work, and one ongoing contract that will grow and grow in worth over the coming months .

but i do feel that you cant rely on only the internet you need to market the traditional way as well,

regards

martin

Get yourself a basic site made up and get a google adwords account.

If you havent the time, get someone else to do the site for you and setup the Adwords account yourself which is easy to do, just need the the words and phrases that people use. I could supply you with my best preforming words and phrases.

Well worth doing and if you just target your imediate area with adwords it wont cost a fortune. A largish town with 100k population should only be about £15-30 per month.

Drop me line if you need anymore help with the site.

I just built one this afternoon through this lot.

http://order.1and1.co.uk/xml/order/Home;jsessionid=1DBE20AB3A75E37782BEA43CECCF4226.TC32a?__reuse=1191422661110

Difficult to find a template with something CC themed so went with a fairly straighforward one for now.
