customers... who'd have em
« on: August 27, 2009, 04:53:14 pm »
cleaning away front of this house today, and customer from down the road pops her head round.
morning i say, how are ya?
"oh fine thanks" she said.
she said "er.. could i just ask how much you charge for cleaning the windows?"
did i just hear her right.... she's asking me for a price, cheeky cow!   :-X
i said whats wrong with the cleaner you have already?
she realised then and said, oh.. are you coming to us today.
what would you have done?
i was so ready to dump her, but i do 2 together and have to move the van, thats what stopped me dropping her.
i'll be dropped if ever she finds someone cheaper. thing is they asked for their garage door last month to be cleaned, and i didn't charge them any extra.

If it was me I probably wouldn't have recognised her and then gone round to quote the place. You could have always said my minimum price is (double what you already  pay) seeing as she didn't recognise you.

Out of interest EZ - how much do you charge her and for what? Then we can decide whether you're a rip-off merchant or whether we sympathise with you! ;D

Don't know what your prices are mate, but whatever they are, she doesn't sound very happy with your service or price or both.

Or why would she ask?. Ask her if she has a problem with either.

There are always going to be customers who shop around looking for a cheaper mug than you to clean for them. Its just life.

My attitude is I will take their money while I can and forget them instantly when they go.

That's a very fair price for her - unless you live in deepest Lancashire in which case you should be doing them for £1.50 a pop fortnightly!  ;D

it does sound a bit cheap now i've itemised the job... in reality its less than 10min job.
i dont do frames every time though, but i do a proper job of the doors.

anything with less than 10 windows would be a tenner? does that include anything that would count as compact work too ie, in same area all day?
i price at £1 per window for jobs that are not compact, but sometimes if they have any small ones i'll put 2 together.

Ok she didn't recognise you which was a tad embarrassing for her and at £8 (underpriced) how much was she hoping to save if she swopped you for somebody else?

But as for asking...why not?  You mean you don't check prices?
