Rug cleanig
« on: August 07, 2009, 07:05:59 am »
Hi Lads,

We do the odd rug cleaning. There nothing too special. And we generally take the rugs away. Although the cleaning of them seems to be fine, the drying is a pain.

We dont normally over wet, but on some of the edges we find we have to over wet to remove the dirt.

We had one rug that when we dried it, seem to have a couple of creases in sort of like an lying down s is the only way I can discribe it. I think it was laid down incorrectly and not totally flat. (I dont know if they will come out over time)

Have you lads got any tips on rug drying - what works best.

cheers

Dave

Cleaning rugs is pretty easy, getting them dry quickly is the important part. What you describe is called "rippling". You are more likely to get this on Belgian Wilton type rugs due to over wetting. These Polyprop rugs have cotton and jute strands in the backing which shrink when wetted causing the rug to ripple.
If you are taking them off site best bet is to try and rig up some poles to hang the rugs over. The poles need to be big to avoid creases. Scaffolding poles with plastic drain pipe over are ideal. Once hung up airmovers can be directed over the rug to dry it. If the area is enclosed you may also require dehumidification as well.

Tony,

Thanks I have air movers x 2

John,

Many thanks for the advice. I have scaffold poles so I will get on to that straight away.
Very much appreciated.

John,

slight change of subject I did have a look on you website at Dry carpet cleaning. I take it that you do not sell and envirodri as I could only see Flexi-5 Carpet Restorer.

Cheers

Dave

when hanging over poles , hang the rug at an angle then there is no chance of getting a crease when dry .
there is more to add to this regards the weft and warp but its Friday.
