Stiff leather jacket

Theoretical question on stiff leather.

As some will know, I live in the tropics.

Unfortunately, after our "wet season" we then get our "winter" where it gets flamin' cold and the temp can drop to as low as 10c / 50f.

Most times, our humidity is above 70rh, and very often in the 90's for weeks on end.

So, come "winter" and everyone is pulling out their leather jackets 'cos they gotta go south for a while.

Naturally, these jackets are mouldy and in most cases hard and stiff.

They can be either pigskin, cowskin, suede and shearling.  :o

I get all the "good" ones.  :'(

How would one treat the mould spores AND staining. ?

How would you add moisture back into these items to make them soft once more. ?

What product would you use to make them soft once more. ?

Looking for a system that is a "hands on" method of cleaning rather than a machine type clean.

I do realise that not a lot can be done for the pitting that the mould spores have created, apart from spraying colour onto the item.

There are many systems on the market, some good, many not so good.

I would like advice on the best system and products YOU would use to rectify these problems.

Thank you,

Shorty.

There's a guy on here sometimes called Roger Shorty, I don't know whether you know him, he may be able to answer your question.

 Roger,

What suggestions do you have that could be packaged and sold to owners of leather that would inhibit the growth of mold spores??

I have interested customers that are prepared to apply a product on a regular basis during our "wet" season IF it will stop the mold spores.

In my area, mold spores are in the air all the time, however, they only "blossom" during times of rain or high humidity, this is when it hits the fan and I start getting panick calls about the mold in their leather.

Then I'm expected to be just sitting there, waiting for THEIR phone call & dash out and fix everything within the same day.

I reckon I could write a book on mold stories alone

Thanks again,

Shorty.

d’Mold3.6™ comes in concentrate too, dilute with distilled water at ratio 1: 10.

Bottle it with custom labels (your name and phone number) and distribute it at your end (leather retailers, manufacturers, owners, etc.)

This “fungicide/bactericide” product is used in commercial tannery too.

It’s effectiveness last 8 months.

It is best to apply on an 8 monthly cycle or at least once a year before the “wet” season in your situation.

OK just for you Steve, well maybe not.  ;D

Shorty is a pal of Roger Koh. The thread posted was from Roger's leather forum dated last year. Of course I stand corrected if it's another guy called shorty down under.   :-\

You're too young to remember the three stooges steve. I think it'a pristine clean on the left and Shorty in the middle, the one on the end plugs template web design.

I'm off now to get a life. ;D

Mike, I met Roger at Connections last year.

I also met Judy & Andy previously.

I class them all as mates, as I do John Bolton whom I have never met.

Along with many others on various forums that I have never met although I have spoken to some via phone or Skype.

I do forget things & I had forgotten about that post that you just put up.

If you check back I think you will find that I have been absent from this forum for a long time.

This recent post was a genuine request for information, from whomever wants to part with it.

Also, the one in the middle is not me.

He has too much hair.  ;)  ;D

I would still like a sensible answer from anyone that can supply it, surely I can't be the only one in this situation. ?

Although I may be the only mug silly enough to ask it.

Thanks,

Shorty.
