kitchen wall tile clean advice please
« on: June 24, 2009, 02:41:36 pm »
I cleaned an old ladies oven and she has asked if i could clean her kitchen wall tiles. As she is in her eighties and does not have much money or family to call on for help i will not be charging her.Are there any decent wall tile cleaning and polishing products on the market ? or is hot water and elbow grease just as good ?

any advice appreciated
Paul  :)

Hi Paul

Depending what you used on her oven, but I would dilute the degreaser I use for the oven and use that with hot water. If you're not sure about your degreaser or if it's caustic, try an anti bacterial washing up liquid, again with hot water. Rinse well and buff up with a dry cloth.

Hi

With Joe on this one

I have used Brillo Degreaser coming on 6 years and it has never failed, make up a strong solution and watch it melt in front of you, depending on the build up you may need to let it work for a few minutes.

Scourer it in so the build up gets removed, wipe up residue with plain white kitchen towel (repeat if necessary), buff up with window cleaner and more kitchen towel.

I am also having great results with Biological washing powder/liquid. Same as above but the washing liquid has enzymes to break down the protein and the cell wall of bacteria, great stuff, smells great. I am now using this on all my student lets, did a real bad one last week and the washing liquid made short work of it. it's also cheaper than the Brillo, Brillo is £12 for 5 ltrs, the washing liquid is £3 for 1.5 ltrs, depends if you are going to use it on a lot of jobs I guess.

Hi

You can use any Biological washing liquid, Ariel, Persil etc. I use it all over the place now, bathrooms, kitchens, tiles, used neat on greasy extractors is amazing, strips the grease off in minutes.

I usually dilute into spray bottles (1/2 a cap in 500ml) but also use it neat with a scourer on extractors or baked on greasy tiles usually behind the cooker and down the side of it.

Give it a bash, you won't be disapointed.
