I would say that it is not the clamp, put the tape on the pole wear the clamp will sit over it, when you can me I will explain in more detail for you.

I am highly surprised you have not called already as I was expecting it. ;)

tried the electrical insulation tape solution, didnt cut it. it kept getting snagged, no matter how thin i put it.

any suggestions?

if its an xtel  or harris clamp it works good

More often than not a replacement clamp will cure this situation.

If the pole is only spinning on one section (perhaps the top 6") then you may need to build up the surface of the pole by way of a temporary solution. To do this mix up a small amount of rapid epoxy resin and smear on the worn section, making sure that you scrape most of the glue back off before it sets. Leave overnight and then sand the glued area smooth. This should re-build the worn section of the pole.

stuff that, would rather buy another pole!!

the wear is quite visible, so i doubt a clamp would do.

don't open the pole as much  ;) and use the taped part as markers.
Failing that do what Alex said it really is easier and less hassle than it sounds.
